“The Relations Between the Ego and the Unconscious”, originally published in 1928, provides a clear and comprehensive introduction to Jungian analysis, analytical psychology, and Jung’s theory of the unconscious.

It is a summation of Jung’s discoveries from 28 years of psychiatric practice, and is likely the best introduction from a primary source that is available to Jung’s work, discussing how we can confront and integrate archetypes from the collective unconscious.

The essay is collected in Volume 7 of Jung’s Collected Works, along with the essay “On the Psychology of the Unconscious”, which provides a more general introduction to Jungian theory, and its place within the psychoanalytic tradition. The volume is aptly titled, Two Essays on Analytical Psychology.

We proceed now with a simplified abridgement of the text.

By the way, I’m now publishing all of my book summaries under the publication Paraphilosophy. I’d really appreciate it if you could follow — it’s free. 😁
