This month we’ve added new case studies onto our website. Now you can see how TrackBack, Chain financial and iOMOB have blockchain enabled their businesses with PL^G technology here.

New Zealand’s international tech reputation is on the rise, as a stream of international business delegations made their way to our shores this month, on the hunt for the next big thing in tech.

We were lucky enough to have had the social innovation team from South Korea’s SK Group visit us at our Auckland office, prompted by our visit to their offices in Seoul earlier in the year. The SK social innovation team met with both government and tech organisations including Centrality, Dotterel, Animation Research, Weta Workshop and NZTech, and they were really impressed with how well the New Zealand tech ecosystem collaborates with government.

Before leaving New Zealand, SK Telecom and NZTech signed an agreement to collaborate on ensuring New Zealand tech firms have access and exposure to the capital and ecosystem of SK Telecom. Which is a great opportunity for us.

In addition to the interest we’re receiving from Seoul, we were invited by several VC groups in Silicon Valley to share the developments of our portfolio companies. The feedback was very positive and as a result we are researching setting up a base in San Francisco.

In the last month, the development team focused on reviewing and improving development, and releasing the pipeline in preparation for our bounty programme, which encourages and rewards community developers to help us build our node software.

Check out what else has been happening this month with the development and ecosystem updates below:

M2 Success Summit

I presented at the M2 Success Summit as part of 10 keynote speakers, in front of over 400 highly motivated entrepreneurs, business decision makers and high performers. In my presentation I covered how blockchain will impact your industry and create new industries in New Zealand.

I was inspired by industry pioneers making their mark in the world of cutting edge technology, with other keynote speakers presenting on topics like; The link between physical and mental performance and business success and using platforms to create sustainable mobility. It was nice to see the synergy between the topics being discussed and the work we’re doing within PL^G and our ecosystem.

Angel Hack

We traveled alongside Centrality to Singapore to mentor teams taking part in the Angelhack hackathon.

We started off with a Community MeetUp, where we took developers through our tech stack. They got a hands-on experience building smart contracts and protocols and got all geared up to tackle our challenge at the hackathon. You can read more about the hackathon here.

SHE# Beyond Blockchain

We partnered with SHE# to host a meetup at our offices, Beyond Blockchain 101 with Centrality, on 25 July. SHE# is an awesome organisation who want to inspire the next generation of female leaders, doers, and thinkers in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), by showing them that they belong just as much as everyone else!

SHE# are on a mission to bridge the gender gap and are doing this by providing a platform for women in tech to network and develop vital skills that will advance them professionally. We’re proud to be part of the change and support the encouragement of women in tech.

Sylo

It has been a great month again for Sylo, with the Beta DApp progressively growing and now having adoption across more than a dozen countries since its release!
Focus for the team is firmly on the DApp, covering a number of areas, such as:

  • Taking in user feedback, fine-tuning the UX and ironing out bugs as they are brought to the team’s attention
  • Rolling out the connected app framework to enable third-party developers to build apps and features for the Sylo marketplace. This was first released earlier this month and battled testing during the Centrality family hackathon.
  • Working with our first few marketplace partners, with the goal of introducing the first connected apps by next business quarter
  • Exiting the ‘beta’ phase for the DApp and going GOLD by the end of this quarter!
