NPR has always been a source of radio style journalism. The NPR Politics Podcast has taken that model a step further to produce hour long roundtable discussions of weekly political events.

The podcast covers every single political event: whether it is Donald Trump’s new outlandish statements or a debate. They usually record their podcast after the event, which means that they are often awake until two or three in the morning. Regardless of the time they record, they are engaging and fun for the entire hour.

If you ever miss a debate, a political gaff or the newest poll, the politics team’s Weekly Round Up has you covered. Listening to the Weekly Round Up allows me to take a break from constantly consuming politics, because I know I will be brought up to speed after listening.

What is refreshing about the show is that these journalist take the time to give you the context of what happened and more importantly why it happened. They go beyond the 10 second soundbites and really dive deep into the topics of the week.

Ron Elving (center)

Each podcast member covers a different aspect of politics. A regular contributor Ron Elving is the Senior Political Editor and Correspondent at NPR. He has worked in the House of Representatives and other newspapers before coming to NPR. Elving often provides first hand political context: often because he was at the event. Over the years he has covered more events than the entire politics podcast team. The other journalists are congressional reporters some cover just one of the candidates. Another reporter just covers political demographics.

Every single reporter brings something different for the team and together as a group they have ever aspect of politics covered.

I hope you are inspired to subscribe and download their newest episode.
