It is time for another Poetry Playground Prompt! Last week’s prompt received wonderfully written responses. This week the prompt is a theme.

Next week is my birthday. I am looking forward to the day, but not to the number of my years increasing.

When I was 19, my brother turned 25. I said to him, “You’re a quarter of the way to a hundred. That’s practically dead.”

More than ten years later, my brother reminds me of this every birthday — pointing out gleefully that I am now well past 25 myself.

That brings us to this week’s prompt — ageing.

Write a poem about the passing of time for people. This might be for yourself, or others. It could be passing from childhood to adulthood, or moving to old age. It could be everything in between.
