It is time for another Poetry Playground Prompt!

Last week’s prompt led to lots of brilliant poetry. I think people had a lot of fun with it.

This Week’s Prompt

You may have noticed that this week’s prompt is later than usual. That is because my husband and I had friends round this weekend. We had a great time eating, playing games and going on a very long walk.

We walked in the Peak District, and visited a place called ‘Lud’s Church’. It is a chasm with three entrances. It was used by the Luddites several centuries ago as a place to hide. When you visit it is a complete surprise — something quite unique and unexpected.

That leads us to this week’s prompt. Surprise! Write a poem about a surprising event or place. Perhaps you’ve had a surprise birthday party, or maybe you discovered a special place when your car broke down. Or perhaps you hate surprises, and you need to tell people they must not surprise you.

Write a poem using ‘surprise’ as inspiration.
