We’re excited to introduce you to not one, but two brand new Pollen features — Pollen Leagues and Shorts.

By now, you’ve probably mastered the Pollen Virtual dashboard, and Leagues is your chance to challenge your peers and take your skills to the next level by competing in your very own league.

Given the bear market that we’ve been through over the past few months, you probably also know a thing or two about shorting assets. We now give you an easy way to do it — at a single click of a button.

Now on testnet, this latest iteration of Pollen Virtual not only lets you showcase your individual trading proficiency, but your capabilities as a team. To top this off, we give you a shorting tool to take your game to the next level.

How? Create a league, add your friends and trading community to it, and compete with each other and other teams to reach the top of your own league and the Pollen Leagues leaderboard. To short an asset, simply select ‘short’ when rebalancing your portfolio.

As an extra to help you make the most of these beta releases, we’ve also added Bored Ape Yacht Club’s APE, MakerDAO’s MKR, Polkadot’s DOT, NEAR protocol’s eponymous native token, Compound’s COMP, Basic Attention Token BAT, Synthetix’ SNX, P2E gamers’ favorite Axie Infinity AXS, Chiliz’ CHZ, and Polygon’s MATIC.

Read on to find out more, but before you start, fill in the Pollen Leagues beta Google Form if you wish to be contacted about future beta and mainnet upgrades, and hear about PLN rewards for beta-testers.

Why Leagues?

Pollen Leagues is the first expansion of the Pollen Virtual product. Currently, traders on Pollen get to compete individually and battle it out in the Pоllen Virtual leaderboard. However, we believe in strength in numbers and that we should all be allowed to pick our battles. Hence Pollen Leagues — your personal, 24-hour, seven-days-a-week trading championship.

Pollen Leagues allows anyone to create and moderate a ‘league’, meaning a group of traders competing amongst themselves. There isn’t a limit to the number of members, so Leagues is suitable for small groups of friends, but also for large trading communities. Equally, there is no limit to the number of leagues you can join, provided you are invited by their admin.

While Pollen Virtual gives you a chance to shine as an individual trader, Pollen Leagues will enable you to create strong trading teams and compete on a much larger scale. Do you have a group of friends you chat with online? Create a league together. Are you a part of a gaming community that wants to experiment with decentralized finance? Leagues are perfect for you.

The ultimate goal — rank your team at the top of the Leagues leaderboard, all the while competing to top your own league.

Bear in mind that, currently, you can only create one Pollen Virtual portfolio, meaning that you will be competing with the same portfolio in each league you join, as well on the main Pollen leaderboard.

Why Shorts?

In a nutshell, the bear market made us do it. And like we’ve always said — it is in bear markets that the best traders emerge. Pollen was created to give all traders, regardless of their level of expertise, an easy-to-use toolsuite to let them shine.

We’ve therefore introduced a shorting functionality to Pollen Virtual that lets you choose a short or long position for each allocation in your portfolio. Want to bet on an asset going down, rather than up? Simply select ‘Short’ when rebalancing your portfolio. That’s it, no need to convert to stablecoins or exit positions if you think an asset’s value will drop.

By making this otherwise more advanced trading tactic easily accessible, we once again contribute to creating a level playing field for all traders.

How to sign up for the beta?

Signing up for Pollen beta is easy, and we’ve prepared a simple step-by-step guide to walk you through the process.

Before you start, fill in the Pollen Leagues beta Google Form if you wish to be contacted about future beta and mainnet upgrades, and hear about PLN rewards for beta-testers.

Now let’s get started.

Follow steps 1 to 4 if you don’t already have a Pollen testnet portfolio, and test PLN and AVAX.

If you’ve previously tested a Pollen beta release, only follow steps 5 to 10.

  1. Set your MetaMask Web3 wallet — you can find a detailed guide on how to do that here.
  2. Add AVAX-C Testnet to your MetaMask wallet.
  3. Top up your wallet with test AVAX & PLN:

Go to our Telegram or Discord and get 500 test PLN from the Pollen faucet. Use /faucet *Your Address* command on @pollen_defi_bot for TG or in the pln-testnet-faucet channel for Discord. If Discord is not working for you please try Telegram.

Get some Testnet AVAX from the AVAX faucet. You will need it for gas fees. Be sure to select the Fuji-C net network and enter your address. Alternatively, you can also go to https://chainlist.org and connect your MetaMask. Search for “AVAX Fuji”, click on “Add chain” and then allow the blockchain from your wallet with the “Testnets” switch enabled.

4. Go to the Pollen Leagues beta dapp on https://beta.pollen.id and create a Pollen Virtual portfolio — you can find instructions on how to do this here.

5. To create your own league, head to the Leagues tab and select ‘Create League’.

6. Pick a name for your league, upload a profile picture for it, and confirm your choices.

7. A Metamask pop-up window will appear asking you to confirm and sign the transactions associated with setting up your league. When doing so, you will be charged a small test AVAX gas fee.

8. To add your friends, select ‘Invite’ and enter their wallet addresses or the Twitter handles linked to their Pollen Virtual portfolios. Once again, confirm the transactions via the MetaMask pop-up.

9. You must have an invitation to join an existing league. If you’ve been invited, a notification will appear on the top left of your Leagues screen, next to the ‘Invited’ tab. Click on this tab and accept the invitation by once again confirming the transaction via the MetaMask pop-up that will appear.

10. You’re all set to start using Pollen Leagues. Now start trading and rebalancing to boost your reputation and top the charts. Remember — you can now also use the Shorts functionality when rebalancing.

Wen Pollen Leagues and Shorts on mainnet?

In order to bring you the best Leagues and Shorts experience possible, we’ve first launched these new features on testnet. This means you’ll have the opportunity to share feedback with us and actively participate in the creation of Pollen Leagues and Shorts as finished products.

So wen mainnet?

We’re feeling pretty confident about both Leagues and Shorts and looking to go on mainnet by September. However, this entirely depends on your feedback and, of course, the Pollen community’s vote. (Hint: we’ve got a full-fledged governance portal coming your way soon.)

To share your feedback with us, join our Telegram and Discord.

And, a reminder: fill in the Pollen Leagues beta Google Form if you wish to be contacted about future beta and mainnet upgrades, and hear about PLN rewards for beta-testers.
