Life Update: I Bought An Apartment!
What I’ve learned over the last 7 months

If you’d asked me five years ago whether I thought buying a property was a good idea, I’d have said hell no!
- You have to fix things
- You’re tied to one place
- You’re trapped in a mortgage
So why the change of heart?
There wasn’t a single piece of advice that tipped the scales. Instead, a general sense of unease crept into my life…
Let me explain
I thought about pulling out. Should I travel? Pay off my student loans? Do something else?
Round and round they went.
The doubts, fears, and insecurities.
And I’ll be honest — these feelings still sit with me, even after spending the last week in my brand-new apartment.
But I’m confident I’ve made the right move.*
*I won’t tell you whether to buy a property or not. It’s a personal decision. I just want to share my thought process to help you decide whether buying is right for you.
Why am I confident?
This is the biggest commitment I’ve made in my life to date.
Sure, I’ve committed to relationships, but a property feels different somehow. More permanent.
This is what I need.
I’ve tried the whole “digital nomad” thing. It wasn’t for me. And the misery I felt earlier this year slowly seems to be waning.
What I needed was to commit to something.
John P. Weiss has this wonderful quote:
“If you want meaning, stop worshipping freedom…
“Those ‘laptop warriors’ traveling around the world, blogging about their lack of commitments.
“I’m sure they mean well, but what are they building? What is their legacy? What roots have they planted?”
The pros so far
- My neighbours are friendly
- The greenery makes me feel calm
- I can do what I want when I want
