You’ve been writing short-form tech content on Medium, and now you are thinking about writing a book, but you have questions. Get answers from authors who have been there, done that with multiple publishers (not just The Pragmatic Bookshelf). You’ll also get to hear the answers to questions you may not have thought of that other attendees ask.

Host

Margaret Eldridge, Content professional with The Pragmatic Programmers

I’m the editor of The Pragmatic Programmers on Medium and the person who handles book proposals for The Pragmatic Bookshelf. My role on Medium Day is primarily to introduce attendees to our author panel and moderate questions. However, if you want to write with us, please hit me up directly.

Speakers

Ashley Peacock, Staff Engineer and Architect

Ashley is the author of the wildly successful book, Creating Software with Modern Diagramming Techniques. That book happens to sport my favorite book cover of all PragProg titles. Find out how his journey to book author started right here on Medium.

Karl Stolley, Web Developer

Karl has a seemingly innate talent for the writing style for which books from The Pragmatic Bookshelf are known. Ask Karl questions about his book, Programming WebRTC, his move from academia to the corporate world, Hank the Tank—you name it.

Kenneth Kousen, Founder, Kousen IT, Inc.

Ken writes a hilarious yet informative tech-centered newsletter called Tales from the Jarside, whose readers are “jarheads.” He also holds a record for most academic degrees, competes in chess tournaments, and is the author of at least six books (that I know of).

Mike Riley, Software Developer, DevOps Engineer, and Emerging Information Technologist

Mike contributes an opinionated monthly column to The Pragmatic Programmers on Medium about emerging tech, for which I try to come up with interesting cover graphics. Look through the articles and comment on your favorite cover. Mike’s latest book, Portable Python Projects, is about using Raspberry Pi hardware and Python for home automation.

🎬 Join us on Medium Day, August 12 at 11 a.m. Eastern. This session is a rare opportunity to ask authors questions about their experiences writing and publishing books on technical topics.
