PRISM Android v4.2.0
Scheduled for release on April 19, 2024.

The PRISM iOS v3.1.0 & Android v4.2.0 updates include the following new features:

  • Revamped ScreenCast feature
  • Improved YouTube chat view latency
  • Option to not save video while streaming (iOS only)
  • Added Facebook App Tracking Transparency permission (iOS only)
  • Other performance and stability improvements

Let’s take a closer look at each feature for a more detailed explanation.

★ Revamped ScreenCast feature

The PRISM mobile app underwent a revamp of its ScreenCast feature in the third quarter of last year.

The ScreenCast feature is primarily utilized for game streaming, utilizing the device’s screen for live streaming from smartphones. Following its complete revamp in the third quarter of last year, we incorporated user feedback to further enhance this feature.

However, due to the extensive nature of this revamp, I’ll break down the major changes for you.

• Support for layout presets

The most significant change in this ScreenCast revamp is the support for layout presets.

While the previous version of the PRISM mobile app also supported layout settings, it was limited to just one pair of layout settings for portrait and landscape modes, causing inconvenience. However, with these updates iOS v3.1.0 and Android v4.2.0, you will be able to configure and save multiple layouts.

Furthermore, the PRISM app provides pre-defined layout presets optimized for game streaming.

Configure a layout that matches the game orientation you’re streaming.
You can create and save multiple layout configurations.
PRISM app provides template presets of various layout configurations.
Choose the layout template that best suits your streaming needs.
You can rename, duplicate, or delete saved layouts.
You can modify those templates and save them as your custom layouts.

• Support for streaming video preview (Android only)

In the previous PRISM Android app, users could easily see the entire chat history of viewers with the floating widget shown below.

And with the Android v4.2.0 update, a preview tab is added to the floating widget, allowing users to easily see how the current layout settings appear on the viewing screen.

• Support for front camera overlay (Android only)

In the upcoming PRISM Android v4.2.0 update, support for Picture-in-Picture (PIP) functionality, which includes the streamer’s appearance in the streaming video, is provided.

This feature was initially supported in the ScreenCast feature of the early PRISM Android app but was excluded in the revamp last quarter. However, due to numerous user requests for its reinstatement, it’s now being reintroduced with this update.

The PIP area allows pinch-to-zoom for zooming in and out and drag to adjust its position.

• Adding Screen sharing to CONNECT mode (Android)

This is a feature that has been supported in the PRISM iOS app but was not available in the PRISM Android app, despite numerous user requests.

It allows utilizing the screen of the PRISM mobile app in CONNECT mode, a feature where the camera source from the PRISM mobile app can be used as a camera source in the PRISM PC app. This functionality will be added in the upcoming update, PRISM Android v4.2.0.

• ScreenCast notification (iOS)

The PRISM Android app provides various real-time information, including viewer chats, to streamers conducting game streaming through the floating widget.

On the other hand, due to limitations in the iOS operating system, the PRISM iOS app has not been able to offer this feature, causing significant inconvenience. Therefore, our PRISM team has been exploring solutions to provide similar usability even in the current situation, considering utilizing the notification feature of the iOS operating system.

So, with the upcoming update to PRISM iOS v3.2.0, the app will provide various events such as viewer chats and subscription information in real-time during game streaming through the notification feature of the iOS operating system.

We encourage users to navigate to the app’s settings menu to customize detailed settings and experience enhanced interaction with viewers.

Through the app’s settings menu, users can configure various notifications for the ScreenCast feature.
Detailed settings are supported, along with Text-to-Speech (TTS) functionality.

★ Improved YouTube chat view latency

There will be a significant improvement in the latency of viewer chat when streaming to YouTube.

Previously, the latency in retrieving chats varied slightly depending on the number of viewers participating in the live broadcast, resulting in delays ranging from 2 to 5 seconds. This, combined with the inherent delay in the video itself, posed challenges for real-time communication with viewers.

With the upcoming app update, this latency has been reduced to within 1 second, enabling smoother interaction between streamers and viewers.

★ Non-save option for video while streaming (iOS only)

Many users have requested the option to not save videos during live streaming in the PRISM iOS app due to insufficient storage space.

However, aside from the advantage of saving storage space, this feature also offers performance benefits. Not saving videos during live streaming reduces the strain on device resources that would otherwise be used for video storage, potentially causing device overheating and performance degradation.

As a result, with the PRISM iOS v3.2.0 update, you can use the [Temporary storage of live streaming video files] option in the settings menu to stream live video without saving it.

If you don’t need to retain the recorded video after the live broadcast, utilize this feature to conduct live streaming in a better device condition.

★ Added FB App Tracking Transparency permission (iOS only)

Starting from May 1, 2024, Apple mandated a Privacy Manifest for all apps registering on the App Store. This specification focuses on user privacy by detailing the reasons for data collection by both the app itself and any third-party SDKs it utilizes.

The Facebook SDK used by the PRISM app also had to adhere to this Privacy Manifest specification. As a result, one of the necessary changes for the PRISM app was the ‘Facebook App Tracking Transparency Permission Request’.

This is also known as App Tracking Transparency (ATT), which is aimed at protecting user privacy. Depending on the user’s operating system version, the PRISM iOS app can request permissions within the app with the following guidance:

PRISM app may request permissions with the following guidance within the app based on the user’s OS version. If you see these guides, please carefully review each of them to grant permissions so that PRISM app can start streaming to Facebook properly.

★ Other performance and stability improvements

While we introduced about 5 update specifications in this post, the actual detailed specifications included in this update amount to around 40.

It’s difficult to delve into every detail, but a significant portion of them are aimed at enhancing the app’s performance, ensuring stability, and resolving errors across various areas of the app.

We always observe how users utilize our app, aiming to provide a better app by identifying areas for improvement. Thank you.
