The easiest way to convert from Web2.0 to Web3.0 is diving into Blockchain Games. Many players make their wallets, and even buy NFT assets to play Blockchain Games. There are NFT assets like Characters, Pets, Skins, Lands, and etc. Now i will introduce Lands in League of Kingdoms which is very similar with Real Estate.

  • Part.0 — Similarities between Real Estate and LOK Lands
  • Part.1 — LOK Land
  • Part.2 — Land D-Points Inflation
  • Part.3 — Situation Analysis

Part.0 — Similarities between Real Estate and LOK Lands

In Real Estate Markets, many infrastructure like transportation, corporation , culture, and academic affect the price. Where infrastructure is developed, a large number of players gather. When a large number of players gather, a virtuous cycle occurs in which the surrounding area develops again.

LOK Land has the attributes of Development Points(”D-Points” hereafter) and Level. The D-Points determine the level of the Land. Highly developed Land will have a higher Land level and richer resources (farm, gold mines, monsters, etc). Players gather to benefit from the infrastructure of a Land with a high level, and the Land grows faster. Based on these characteristics, let’s learn more about current status of LOK Lands.

Part.1 — LOK Land

Rewards and Growth of the Land

Before looking at the current status of Land, let’s briefly review the properties of Land.

Rewards of the Land

LOK Land brings different advantages to ‘Land Owner’ and ‘Players who play on Land’.

Land Owner

Each Land is assigned a level according to D-Points ranking, and $LOKA is distributed according to the proportion of D-Points. In other words, even with the same level of Land, the Land that accumulates higher development points will receive more $LOKA. In addition, 5% of the resources collected from the Land are accumulated by the Land owner, and the Land owner can receive and use it at any time.

Players who play on Land

Players can enjoy many advantages while playing on or near higher-level Lands than lower-level Lands. They can mine more crystals to mine high level crystal mines. Also if they hunt high-level monsters, they can get more crystals and other items too.

Growth of the Land

The ratio of Land to each level is fixed, and the Land level is determined according to the D-Points ranking. D-Points will increase through the following activities:

  • Resource mining: If 50,000 x resources are collected on Land, that Land gets a development point.
  • Crystal mining: You get development a dev point for mining 5 crystals.
  • Crystal consumption: If player consume 1x crystals, it adds 1/5 Dev-point for that particular Land and 1/40 D-points for all 8 of adjacent Lands bordering that Land.

Part.2 — Land D-Points Inflation

As the DAU of LOK increases, the total amount of resource mining, crystal mining, and crystal consumption increases. So it is natural for the total D-Points to increase faster. Due to Drago launching delay and various bugs, the DAU has not changed much. But, the minimum D-Points for each level is increasing more and more rapidly. In other words, accelerating inflation of D-Points is taking place. In this environment, let’s take a look at Land level maintenance and Land level up.

Land Level Maintenance

From April 2022 to September 2022, the development points required for each level of Land to maintain their level are as follows.

Source: NFTBank.ai

A Player who has a level 4 Land must accumulate 237.3K D-Points in 6 months to maintain the Land level, which means that they have to spend about 1.19M crystals on that Land. (As the increase in D-Points due to resource mining and crystal collection is negligible, assume that D-Points were raised only by crystal consumption)

Let’s assume a typical player plays the game after work and gets about 2,000 crystals in one day. If the player has played the same way for 6 months, he gets 360K crystals. He also needs $817 to purchase the remaining 826K crystals in-game (1,100 crystals = $9.99). After all, in order to purchase Lv.4 Land and maintain the same level for one year, the maintenance cost is approximately twice the purchase cost ($900).

If so, how much effort is required to raise the level of Land? (Assuming the lowest D-Points of the current level -> the lowest D-Points of the next level) The cost of raising the Land level is continually increasing.

Land level up

As of September 30, 2022, D-Points required for a Land with the lowest D-Points in each level to level up are as follows.

Source: NFTBank.ai

A player who owns a level 4 Land needs to accumulate 387.9K D-Points to level up that Land, which means that they need to spend 1.94M crystals. Buying 1.94M crystals in-game (1,100 crystals = $9.99) costs about $1,900. However, as of September 2022, the price difference between Level-4 Land and Level-5 Land is less than $200, so Land owner with Level 4 Land will not pay $1,900 to level up.

If you look at the chart above, you can see that D-Points required to level up the Land continually increasing, but the price of Land continually decreasing. This may cause players to gather to high-level Lands and alienate low-level Lands in the long run.

Part.3 — Situation Analysis

The fundamental problem with D-Points Inflation is that there is no limit to the supply of crystals. Let’s take a look at two things related to the supply of crystals.

Crystal Mining Bot

There are currently 49 continents in the LOK, and there will always be a crystal mine on the map at each specific time. To exploit this point, malicious players use bot programs to collect crystals from all continents every hour. By using these crystals on the Land they own, they accumulate D-Points for the Land faster than other Land owners.

Deathkar and Spartoi

If player hunts “Deathkar” that can be hunted in normal fields and “Spartoi” that can be hunted in CvC fields, player can get crystals with a certain probability. However, as the number of players participating in the hunt increases, there is a possibility that more crystals will be dropped from monsters. For example, let’s say a player have a 1% chance of getting 10 crystals. If 2 players hunt, the expected crystal drop value is 0.02 (0.01 * 2 * 10), and if 10 players hunt, the expected cyrstals drop value is 1 (0.01 * 10 * 10). After all, since there is no limit to the total amount of crystals dropped from one monster, the more players participate in the hunt, the more crystals will be dropped.

Part.4 — Proposed Solutions

If the total amount of crystal supply is adjusted according to DAU, it is expected that the problem of accelerating inflation can be alleviated. Indiscriminate supply of crystals can cause a secondary problem that makes it difficult for new players to grow by improving the average stats of all users. The following methods are recommended to solve the current problems.

  • Returning D-Points accumulated by using the crystals mining bot
  • Limits the total amount of crystals that can be dropped even when hunting “Dethkar” and “Spartoi”
