This is part of my #productidea 30 day challenge on which each day I write about a new product idea.

Since ever, we have built websites and apps for the young audience. Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, Snapchat and all the main platforms have always focused on people between 16 and 25. Even worse, many Internet businesses discard people over 50 as users to care about. It’s thought there are few people with technological capabilities and interest over that age, specially once they have retired.

However, it’s a big mistake. There are hundreds of millions of senior citizens, and a big part of them have been using computers over their last part of their work and personal lives. Many of them may not be experts, but the have jumped into WhatsApp, Facebook and iPads with passion. According to WHO, the number of people over the age of 60 is expected to double by 2050.

I believe there is a lack of websites for senior citizens. They have two truly interesting characteristics: they have a lot of time available and they commonly have money to spend. Aren’t we on the economy of the attention? They have lots of that! Why don’t we serve them then?

It could be an online travel agency for them with special destinations, comfortable hotels and tour guides; or a search engine for activities to do on their home towns, or online courses to teach them how to use the Internet better; or whatever you can think for them.
