AI might be automating parts of the workforce, but there’s one thing it can’t replicate: love. In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, I asked the AI ChatGPT to generate 10 writing prompts about love for this Promptly Written promptilicious segment, “AI Made Me Do It”!

Part 1: Prompts About Artificial Intelligence

How This Works

  • Use the following prompts to write anything you’d like: a short story, flash fiction, poem, article, creative nonfiction, etc. Use the prompt in its entirety or change whatever you’d like; it’s up to you!
  • Submit your response here at Promptly Written (please follow the submission guidelines) where it will be edited by yours truly, Casey Lawrence**, to other any publication, or self-publish it.
  • If you publish your story somewhere on Medium other than PW, make sure to include a link to the prompt at the bottom of your story and tag me (Casey) so that I don’t miss out!
  • Have fun!

“AI Made Me Do It”: 10 Writing Prompts About Love

  1. Depict a society where love is assigned by the government, and write about two people who fall in love despite the rules.
  2. Tell the story of someone who has never received a Valentine’s Day gift, but finally gets one from the person they least expect.
  3. Write about a love triangle where the three people involved must work together to solve a mystery.
  4. Describe a love story between two people who come from different worlds, and how they find a way to make their relationship work.
  5. Imagine a person who has never experienced love, but suddenly falls in love. How does this change their life?
  6. Describe a Valentine’s Day that goes wrong in every possible way.
  7. Write about a person who has always harbored feelings for their best friend, and eventually takes action to pursue a romantic relationship.
  8. Tell the love story of two people who meet at a support group and must navigate the difficulties of finding love while overcoming personal struggles such as depression or addiction.
  9. Describe a love story between two people who must navigate a relationship through the ups and downs of their conflicting careers, such as a lawyer and an artist.
  10. Write about a person who must choose between the love of their life and their family’s strict cultural traditions and expectations.

AI generated the above prompts. However, I coaxed ChatGPT to create the prompts, including feeding it keywords or elements related to the theme. I select the prompts to include in the post from several chats, and exclude any I find boring, offensive, or derivative (i.e., too close to existing IP or another prompt).

Bonus

Here are ten AI-generated ‘micro-prompts’. You can use them as part of your response to the prompts above, or as writing prompts in their own right!

  1. Long-distance love
  2. Romantic rendezvous
  3. Second chances
  4. Romance in the workplace
  5. Redefining love
  6. Love in the digital age
  7. Love after loss
  8. Hidden romance
  9. Candlelight dinner
  10. Love note

I look forward to reading your responses and, if we like this new segment, continuing to use AI to generate writing prompts. If you have topics you’d like me to suggest to ChatGPT for creating writing prompts, put them in the comments!

The AI seemed to take the theme pretty literally and limited the writing prompts to romantic love. Looking for more “love” prompts? Check out February’s Monthly Theme post for prompts about different kinds of love.

**To respect my time, note that I will only edit small issues, such as minor spelling and punctuation mistakes, tags, or formatting.
