Mumbo Jumbo

Do you know of the power of intention, the rhythm of repetition?
The new age mumbo jumbo of the ladies down the street.
The hookah to pooka, the tarots to crystasl.
They tell you; to focus on what you want, see it every day, as you wake.
Those are just mumbo jumbos, are they not?

Do they not see the electricity in air, as it dances on the crowds of house parties?
The bright pink wave of two lovers folding in each other’s palms.
The healing warmth of a mother caring for her child.
The way two strangers just talk to each other, as if they have born together.
The fortune teller with that thick accent didn’t show me what I was missing.
Again, those are just mumbo jumbos.

An amethyst for healing, the sun for accomplishment, and a sprig of rosemary and thyme for protection.
Those things didn’t tell me what I feared the most.
That the people I cared about would leave me behind.
The way my home never truly feels like a home.
The fear I feel when I know I am part of the group but not in the group.
I am always outside, the small cameo character now and then, the one that occasionally just pops in.
I mean, these are mumbo jumbos, right?

So I am focusing, painting these moments deep in my head.
That I would find a place to fit-in, a perfect hole for my body to fill up.
That I would smile and tell myself that the magic deep down did not die.
That I hadn’t paid the price to see the magic in others.
Praying that these mumbo jumbos have meaning.
So I am kneeling down at this altar repeatedly, begging for these mumbo jumbos to work.
Because on the other side, it is raining, and I am truly alone.
