Welcome to the month of November! We are going to shake things up a bit, but then, what’s new about that, right? On Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I will offer poetry prompts. On Tuesday and Thursday, I will offer fiction prompts. Saturday and Sunday’s prompt will be the Weekend Challenge only. So without further adieu, let’s get on with November’s prompting!

Today’s Poetry prompt

Take the phrase ‘Life’s_____’ (fill in the blank) and use it as the title of a poem, then write the poem.

Poetry Form — Tanka
Line Length — Any
Restrictions — poetry form

I am specifically leaving the line length as ‘Any’ in case you want to do a Tanka series or chain (a series is two or more related tanka; a chain means that the last line of one tanka will bleed into the next). These can be as long as you wish them to be, or just the original 5-line tanka.

Click here to learn more about the Tanka and how to write one.

‘Restrictions’ are to challenge you as a writer. However, with everything else here at PW, use these prompts in any way that allows the creative juices to flow.

Write promptly and enjoy! And don’t forget about the Monthly Theme!
