1. THE MISSION

Followers — 164K

Note from the editor: Accelerated learning, tech, antifragility, and definite optimism.

THE MISSION

The Mission was created by Chad Grills who describes it: ‘it was created for publishing stories that will matter today, next year and if we’re lucky… for decades.’

It’s one of the most widely followed publications on Medium (over 164k followers), and, for all the ambitious minds out there, it covers topics like learning, startups, technology, future and life lessons.

2. #SWLH

Followers — 169K

Note from the editor: Handpicked business, marketing, design, and technology articles for entrepreneurs and startups. Also home to inspiring Medium stories in productivity, life lessons, creativity, writing tips, and self-improvement.

#SWLH

If you run or work in a startup, this is a place for you. Not only do they write about tech, but they also share their success and failure stories which are really inspirational. It’s a great source of knowledge, with Seth Godin or Dharmesh Shah writing there, among many other talented contributors.

3. ART + MARKETING

Followers — 21K

Note from the editor: We’re about the intersection of ART and marketing through our generation’s technological renaissance. This publication is sponsored by ArtMapInc.com — a San Francisco-based marketing firm focused on delivering marketing messaging, content marketing, social media marketing, and public relations.

ART + MARKETING

All you need to know about social media, cultural behavior and business. Great insights that help stay up-to-date with what’s going on in tech. What is interesting about their approach? They see good marketing as an art and something that can bring the big bucks. It’s a community that is growing really fast — when I started this research in September, they had 13,6k followers, now they are at 21k.

4. STARTUP GRIND

Followers — 70K

Note from the editor: The life, work, and tactics of entrepreneurs around the world — by founders, for founders. Welcoming submissions on technology trends, product design, growth strategies, and venture investing.

STARTUP GRIND

I enjoy reading this publication mainly because I’m into the topics it covers. Working in a startup myself, I find it quite educative and entertaining at the same time. Loads of personal stories, great authors and inspirational ideas.

5. FREE CODE CAMP

Followers — 95K

Note from the editor: We publish stories about development, design, and data science. If you want to reach a broader audience, email me a link to one or more of your stories: quincy at freecodecamp dot com. We are most likely to publish submissions that are rigorous yet accessible. No listicles or clickbait, please. Also, we get a lot of submissions, so thanks in advance for your patience J

FREE CODE CAMP

Although I know nothing about coding and to be honest, that’s not the area of my interest, I still keep reading this Medium publication. The reason is that all the articles are well-written and really educative. Plus, Quincy Larson, the teacher of the community, is one of my favorite authors on Medium. Not only does he write great content that people love, but he also interacts with them and replies to pretty much every question.

6. SLACK

Followers — 6,1K

Note from the editor: Making your working life simpler, more pleasant, and more productive.

SLACK

What is interesting about Slack is that they moved their entire blog to Medium. Maybe their community is not as big as the other ones, but they are growing quite rapidly. They write mostly about the company itself, but they also have a ‘stories’ sector where they post on various topics.

UPDATE: After writing this article, Slack published their ‘Dear Microsoft’ story, which was actively shared on social media. From rather a small publication, they grew to one that really matters, and they gained approx. 90k followers in just two weeks!

7. MARKETING AND GROWTH HACKING

Followers — 22K

Note from the editor: Everything marketing & growth hacking.

MARKETING AND GROWTH HACKING

MNG is a publication on Medium for topics on marketing, growth hacking, and business related growth. Even though I prefer other publications on marketing, when it comes to growth hacking, it’s great. … And they are open to contributions.

8. STORIES BY BUFFER

Followers — 30K

Note from the editor: Thoughts on social media marketing, self-improvement and work culture from the @buffer team and our closest friends. Want to save an hour a day on your social media management? Buffer can help! Schedule your first post now: www.buffer.com

STORIES BY BUFFER

Although Buffer’s approach to Medium is somehow similar to Slack, I must admit I find this channel really attractive. It’s because, indeed, they write a lot about Buffer itself, but they also publish other stories that are just fun to read. It was hard for me to describe this channel — every time I started digging in it, I would find an article that just made me want to read it.

9. BACKCHANNEL

Followers — 135K

Note from the editor: Mining the tech world for lively and meaningful tales and analysis.

BACKCHANNEL

For those of you who are interested in stories from the Silicon Valley, this publication may be the one. Many stories starting from Facebook, through Uber and AirBnB, to Microsoft. A great place for people who tech.

10. MARKETING AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Followers — 79K

Note from the editor: Tips & news on social media marketing, online advertising, search engine optimization, content marketing, growth hacking, branding, startups and more.

MARKETING AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP

When I noticed how this particular publication grew in the past few weeks, I was shocked — over 60k new followers in such a short period of time is an impressive result. The reason behind it must be simple — their texts are accurate and cover many trending topics. Because who doesn’t want to know how to manage their SEO, how to write better content or take advantage of pay-per-click marketing? I see no hands.
