Meet Stephanie Kim. She’s a Handwriting Artist who joined the team in January 2017. During the last year, she’s written loads of cards, especially elegant ones and even created the Father’s Day card you see below.

When she’s not writing your Punkpost cards, she’s helping out with our newest member of the family: Punkpost Projects. If you haven’t heard of it yet, it’s our new web-based platform that lets you send 100s of cards in minutes.

She’s the person behind the scenes helping us troubleshoot, improve and assist users with this new card-ordering process.

But back to her cards, because we know you want to see more of her work. Here’s just a few of her favorites.

Aloha: Doesn’t this card just make you want to pack your bags for Hawaii? If you are wondering what we’d like for our birthday—besides a card— a trip to Hawaii would be swell.

Desert Oasis: She’s got a knack for drawing prickly plants that look pretty darn cute. Plus, she knows how to find a stamp that matches the inside scene.

Elegant, Not Boring: She loves to stick with a monochromatic design, which means she loves when you pick elegant or formal styles. “The one with the cactus is one of my favorites because it shows that simple isn’t boring.” Indeed, that’s not a boring card.

Send in Batman: Stephanie loves to read your messages and build on that theme. She’s da bomb, basically.

Ooze-tastic: When you say “Happy Halloween,” Stephanie pulls out all her spooky doodles to bring your card to life, including dripping letters. We can’t wait to see what she comes up with next Halloween. It’s only 208 days away.

Yo face: No “Yo face” jokes here. Just genuine love written by Stephanie and a couple photos.

Fast facts about Stephanie:

  • Location: Oakland, California
  • When she’s not writing cards: She’s hanging with her pup, Tabi (and if you like cute dogs photos, we suggest clicking on her name and following her on Instagram). She also works from home for a market research firm. But mostly, she’s obsessing over her puppy.
  • Writing background: She started teaching herself calligraphy three years ago because she wanted a new hobby. This was the adult version of all the fancy letters and doodles she drew on her schoolwork growing up.
  • Go-to doodles: Flowers and cake, “because who doesn’t like cake?”
  • Favorite writing utensil: a Fudenosuke hard tip brush pen by Tombow
  • Favorite stamps: Disney Villains now that she can’t easily purchase Wonder Woman stamps
  • Favorite cards to write: The ones with impressive words. “There are so many cards I write, where I’m like, ‘Wow, these are such kind words; I wish I had thought of these!,’ so really props to those of you out there sending cards!” She also likes when you include pictures of cute kiddos and dogs.
  • Workspace: Sometimes at her desk, but also on the couch
  • Favorite background noise: TV in background or silence. “Writing cards is a way of meditating — I just focus on the card and don’t think about anything else, so I don’t even notice the silence.”
  • Favorite time to write: On busy days, she’ll crank them out at night. But when she can, she likes to write them throughout the day. “It’s a great way to unplug and take a few minutes to recharge my brain.”
  • Writing process: To keep lines of letters nice and straight, she users the Slider Writer that her brother got her. It’s basically a large clipboard with a laser pointer attached to it. Once she has that on, she’ll pick two to three colors to use for the card and envelope so the color scheme doesn’t get “too crazy.”
  • Cards written (so far): 1,000+
  • Skill building: Writing cards makes her write basically every day, and the key to getting better is always practice.
  • Inspiration: She follows other Punkpost handwriting artists on Instagram for inspiration. “I get so many ideas from other writers and am always amazed by what everyone creates!” (You can see their work and find the accounts of other artists on our feed.)

Want to see more? Follow her on Instagram: @st.inky (And if you’re looking to see her daily adventures with Tabi, seen here with the mailbox: @tabitheterror)

Stay tuned: Each month we feature another member of the team so you can get to know the real people behind every doodle and letter that’s sent with Punkpost. And if you can’t wait a whole month, we highly recommend sending your friends and family a snail mail “hello” to say that you love and miss them. Who knows, maybe Stephanie will script you an elegant card.
