Purple teaming is a security methodology whereby red and blue security teams work closely together to maximize cyber capabilities through continuous feedback and knowledge transfer. Although having the same objective, blue and red teams are often misaligned, resulting in companies not realizing the full benefit of their team’s expertise. They usually report to a “third” team; think of it as a term for combining the red and blue teams to construct purple team exercises. We believe that red and blue teams should be encouraged to work together as a team, to exchange information beyond reporting, to establish a clear feedback loop, and to search for detection and prevention controls that can be applied quickly for immediate improvement.
