Winter Interns 2018–2019

Every company starts with a vision. QARA’s began with the hope to simplify, educate, and inspire people to make better investment decisions through the AI deep learning technology.

QARA’s financial and analytics app KOSHO is soon to be released as an official version for the domestic and global markets. KOSHO utilizes the latest CNN & RNN deep learning algorithm to analyze the past 30 years of market history and capture nearly 400 million data to forecast the next week’s financial markets. The updated version from beta-service will include several new features such as events analysis, comparative stock analysis, AI Speaker, and a donation function to Good Neighbors.

Last summer, QARA had welcomed 13 interns from various different backgrounds and experiences to join the team. Read more here. This year, we’ve had the pleasure of working with 5 new interns for the winter months. What’s more, we got to ask them a few questions about their work experiences with QARA. Here is what they said.

Q. Please share about your roles!

Sojung Kim (Marketing): For the past 2 months, I was tasked with various roles to help support the marketing team. In particular, they included posting contents to QARA’s SNS channels, participating in user tests, sending email newsletters, and tracking performance numbers.

Jaeseung Lee (Business Development): I’m part of the management team and I help with human resources, business strategy, and filming YouTube contents.

Jinmyung Lee (AI Scientist): As an AI Scientist Intern, I implemented a service function to help QARA’s product bring better results. This was done through artificial intelligence study and the feature will be added during the official app launch.

Raehyun Kim (AI Scientist): I conducted various experiments to evaluate QARA’s products and prepare them for commercial use.

Youngmuk Kang (Developer): As a Developer Intern, I took part in creating a server for stock trading and worked on catching bugs for the KOSHO app.

Q. What was your most memorable experience?

Jaeseung Lee (Business Development): Aside from working with my colleagues to create QARA’s business model, I also helped create the company’s YouTube channel. At first, I didn’t really know what to think because I don’t have much experience in that area. But one thing I appreciate about working here is that I can try out new things regardless of my job title or position.

Raehyun Kim (AI Scientist): Part of my job is to research in-depth studies about AI deep learning. This had always been the most memorable part of my work at QARA. More specifically, I got to experience working for someone who is an expert in the fields of AI and finance. Through this, I gained practical knowledge about how data can integrate into the financial world.

Youngmuk Kang (Developer): I collaborated with the Machine Learning team to create a stock exchange server that has the ability to execute stock orders. I made this using the familiar C# and I had fun while doing it. I was extremely glad to see that the tool I made could actually work.

Sojung Kim (Marketing): There’s a donation function that will be added in the official app launch and I oversaw the entire project from start to finish. I couldn’t believe I was entrusted with this role as an intern, and I took a substantial role in signing a contract partnership with a nonprofit organization called “Good Neighbors.”

Q. What was the best thing about working at QARA?

Jinmyung Lee (AI Scientist): One of the best things about working at QARA was the Meet the Leader (MTL) program. Through MTL, you can request to have lunch with a leader up to twice a week and the company will pay for the meals. Although I worked with the development team, I had lunch with the marketing team leader. Through this meeting, I was able to share my personal stories, career concerns, and work-related issues. I don’t think you can find this kind of deal anywhere else, especially in startups.

Jaeseung Lee (Business Development): QARA keeps a very open culture. What attracted me the most was the work-life balance I was able to keep while working here. Not only will you have an unlimited opportunity to learn, but you’ll also get to come to work between 9:30 to 10:00 and leave anywhere between 6:30 to 7:00.

Sojung Kim (Marketing): Normally as an intern, you are very limited in your roles. But here, I participated in user testings where I got to see how customers reacted to the contents I created. I also wrote several press release and analyzed marketing performances. Through these tasks, I was able to take a major step up in my marketing career.

Youngmuk Kang (Developer): I got to experience firsthand what it’s like to work at a startup. While focused on my work, everyone suddenly surprised me with a birthday cake. I also enjoyed the practical opportunities I received here as an intern. I was able to handle multiple tasks and felt responsible for my work.

Meet the Leader

Q. Any last words to those who want to work here?

Sojung Kim (Marketing): I don’t exaggerate when I say that doing an internship here was one of the best decisions I’ve made as a college student. If you want to work with motivated individuals who have the knowledge and experience to help you grow in your field, I highly recommend you to apply at QARA!

Jinmyung Lee (AI Scientist): QARA provides a very good work-life balance. You’ll need to put in a lot of effort during the working hours. And once you do, QARA will provide you with the right direction to help build your career.

Jaeseung Lee (Business Development): QARA offers various opportunities for people from many different fields. I don’t think there’s a limit to what you can do here if you are an active member of the team. As an intern, I was tasked with several responsibilities. But while they were challenging, they helped me build perspective and grow as a professional.

Raehyun Kim (AI Scientist): I was glad to see that my work was actually being put to good use. You can do a lot here in a short amount of time. I enjoyed working with my colleagues to find practical solutions to technical problems.

Youngmuk Kang (Developer): There is a lot of skilled people working at QARA. If you have a passion for AI and deep learning, I’m sure you’ll have a great time here. If you are interested in QARA’s mission, go ahead and apply!
