They’re the four little words that have gotten people out of sex since the beginning of time.
“I have a headache.”
As the catchall for generally not being in the mood, people use this excuse because it’s highly effective and can include numerous issues.
“People tell this lie because sometimes it’s easier than saying outright ‘no’ or voicing the real reason at hand, which might be harder to admit or share,” Sarah Hunter Murray, author of Not Always In the Mood: The New Science of Men, Sex & Relationships, told me.
Of course, honesty is always the best policy, so Murray advises being as honest as possible with your partner about the reasons you don’t want sex — which will help to really address problems and work toward getting mutual satisfaction.
