Top Gear now has Preserved Contaminant options in the Enhancements section

Update May 24th: I just deployed a significant update to Preserved Contaminants that addresses a number of the initial limitations. Preserved Contaminants can now handle much larger sims.

Frequently Asked Questions about Preserved Contaminant

Known Issues:

  • Update: Blizzard fixed this. Crafted gear can’t be corrupted in-game but Top Gear will let you. I’m monitoring this but it seems like something that will be fixed.
  • Update: Blizzard is fixing this. Similarly, Top Gear will corrupt pieces that were cleansed pre-patch. Again, sounds like this will be fixed but I’ll keep monitoring.

Blizzard has announced that you will soon be able to have more control over corruption by purchasing Preserved Contaminants from MOTHER. In order to help figure out what might be useful, I’ve added some new functionality to Top Gear’s Enhancements section.

Many options

The main goal with this addition is to make it fairly easy to go check what MOTHER is currently offering, try those corruptions on your gear, and see if any are worth buying. In addition, you can also test corruptions that aren’t currently available to see if you might want to save your currency for the next time her inventory changes.

For each selection, Top Gear will try to apply the corruption to an eligible, uncorrupted item. It takes into account your “Max Corruption” slider and “Require 25 Corruption for Heart of Darkness” checkbox. Most of the time, you will need to select uncorrupted items in slots that already have corruption in order to generate combinations that can fit everything.

Reports will highlight any corruption changes:

I’ve also added some additional abbreviated corruption names to the full results list to make it a bit easier to see which corruptions are being shuffled around:

While this won’t be supported in-game initially, you can also check “Replace Existing Gems/Enchants/Corruption” which will also test replacing existing corruptions with whatever you have selected. Blizzard has said this might be possible in the future.

Troubleshooting

  • If you have corruptions selected and are still seeing “Select Additional Options,” make sure to choose uncorrupted items in slots that have corruption equipped. You need to choose enough alternates that new corruption can be added without going over the Max Corruption slider.

Details

  • Only 1 new corruption effect will be added. I may look into supporting adding multiple corruptions at once but it requires some more time to build and I wanted to get this out quickly. It also may massively increase sim size so it might not feasible at all.
  • There is some level of combination de-duplication happening behind the scenes. If you have multiple uncorrupted pieces of gear, Top Gear will choose one of them arbitrarily and not sim other variations that would be identical DPS. There is an exception for corruptions that scale with item level (Infinite Stars, Twisted Appendage, and Gushing Wound) — these will be tested on each uncorrupted items at different item levels.
  • Non-DPS corruptions are currently hidden as they don’t make a difference (Avoidant, Siphoner, etc).
  • Preserved Contaminant selections interact with all other Top Gear selections so you’ll generally want to run a focused sim just for these (while also selecting uncorrupted items to allow for room in the corruption budget). Trying to sim corruptions as well as talents, essences, or azerite traits will almost certainly exceed even the largest sims that Raidbots can run.
