“Anyone can love a rose, but it takes a lot to love a leaf. It’s ordinary to love the beautiful, but it’s beautiful to love the ordinary.”
- MJ Korvan

After a hot summer, leaves started to turn green once again with the beginning of rain. Leaves are one of the beautiful parts of nature that teach us some great things about life. With the start of every new season, leaves change.

As the season changes, temperatures drop and days get shorter. Trees get less direct sunlight, and the chlorophyll in the leaves breaks down. The lack of chlorophyll reveals yellow and orange pigments that were already in the leaves but were masked during the warmer months.

As night length increases in the autumn, chlorophyll production slows down and then stops, and eventually all the chlorophyll is destroyed. The carotenoids and anthocyanins that are present in the leaf are then unmasked and show their colors.

Leaves teach us that all things have a purpose. It is simple, yet it is able to convert sunlight into food. It is part of a well-balanced ecosystem that is able to sustain, renew, and even repair itself. Each of us is here for a purpose that is special and important. Leves teaches us that, according to the situation, we need to make adjustments. We have to accept change in our lives because change is the only constant in life.

This week’s prompt is,

Observe and describe the beauty of leaves in one of your favorite seasons. Write about why you love the leaves and what they teach you about life.

Terry Day wrote an amazing descriptive article about monsoons in the Southwest and North America.

Shubha Apte shared an article about the beauty of the monsoon.
