Re Human Day 11

I’m re-designing my lifestyle — I’m developing myself in 15 areas at a time. This post is part of my Re Human project.

Daily Habits

Fitness: Today I focused my training on my obliques (side abs), for my direction towards the human flag.

Writing: I did wake up a bit earlier today and worked a bit on my systems over goals longer-form post. Mostly focused on brainstorming the title. I want it to be pretty catchy while not sounding too click-baity. Right now one of the top contenders is “Abandon Your Goals” is the Best Life Advice If You Focus on Systems Instead. I feel starting with something that contradict’s people’s deep-held beliefs, like “it’s bad to abandon my goals” will draw people in. And then using “Best” and “Life Advice” are two things people are always looking for. And then “focus on systems instead” presents that there’s an alternative, giving people the urge to find the answer of what that even means. There’s a couple other permutations of this title I’m considering, as well as completely different options. What do you think?

Also wrote a short daily thought on the realization that documenting our thought processes is powerful. Imagine if you could see Steve Job’s Daily Thought Process? And this post.

Piano: Today in Flowkey I continued with Comptine d’un autre été but the part where the two hands should be playing at the same time was beyond my reach difficulty right now, so decided to go back to the “learning to play sheet music” and try sections that used two hands.

Books: Finished Thinking in Systems! Was good, relevant to what I’m thinking about. Started Yuval Noah Harari’s (Sapiens author) new book, 21 lessons for the 21st century.

Media Influencer: didn’t do much, mostly just looked at who looked at my instagram stories from yesterday.

Meditation: 20mins in morning.

Soccer trick juggling: Today I experimented to doing juggling with music. Was very fun and didn’t feel it detracted to my deliberate practice — felt the improvement.

Re Human Extended Activity: Thursdays is Music Production.

Today I realized I wasn’t getting very far with just the instruments in Logic Pro and my MIDI because I’m not great at creating melodies yet.

So I checked out Splice — a really cool platform for finding sounds. I already had an account and understood how it worked, so I just spent some time finding sounds. Then I found out they had a new “beat maker” tool, which I LOVED and spent the rest of my time playing with. This is the “beat” I made (found one that I liked and started adding/removing things on top of it) (they make it super easy for anyone to make “beats”): https://splice.com/sounds/beatmaker/67d39ea5e1b6

Then I downloaded the files that create that beat and tried putting them together in Logic Pro.

Connections, takeaways and Ideas for tomorrow

The hardest activities to “get started on” are the ones I feel I’ve had — and thus expect — I’ll have the least progress on. I felt this with music production. But because I’m following my system, I had the courage to practice anyway :).
