Dear community,

A lot has happened since our last community update… let’s dive in.

We are now in the final phase of development of completing the new reNFT v2 platform!

(WORK IN PROGRESS)

You can expect a completely new redesign including new structures, visuals, features and even our own API built from the ground up to achieve the best user experience possible.

A lot of platforms utilize 3rd party APIs (the best example being the Twitter NFT feature) which frequently leads to many different problems such as regular downtimes — by building out our own API, we are able to minimize third-party downtimes as much as possible.

With the launch of our v2 platform, we will also introduce many new features including:

  • The ability to edit lend parameters (like price, duration, etc) after putting your NFT up for rent
  • Custom errors, which will further save on gas!
  • Further modularized code.
  • We have libraries for lending and renting checks
  • We also have a very nice NFT library to handle 721 / 1155 transfers
  • Support for “blend assets” that are both 721 and 1155 IE: Sandbox in-game assets
  • Improved and streamlined price handling which means our SDK for integrations is much simpler
  • Well documented functions and interfaces

These are just a few of the main ones, our dev team has been hard at work as we prepare to roll out collateral-free integrations with games!

We will announce the platform’s launch date within the next month.

Roadmap

In the next two months, we will also announce a lot of game integrations we’ve been working on for the last months.

We have talked with many different projects across all blockchains about how we can enable our full plug and play renting, lending, and scholarship automation products in their projects and we look forward to announcing our partnerships with them in the coming weeks. We are big proponents of really defining how the integration looks (and doing the work) before we announce anything.

In the current state of the market you see a lot of projects announce partnerships or integrations without any real action coming out of that — sometimes just for marketing purposes only.

We will have real integrations happening as game products and more begin to roll out.

Since we will also be releasing our new platform within this time, we will be doing heavy marketing pushes in order to achieve the maximum exposure possible and position ourselves accordingly!

Wen $RENT Token?

Before releasing $RENT we are keen proponents of having one to two super active game rental integrations happening in live for the token to have a real use in some of these games. It is crucial to the sustainability.

The current timeline: We will release our token in the first half of this year.

P.S. We put the cats out for a reason, cuddle them close.

In addition, we have already started to build international language-specific channels.

Our Chinese community channel is already enjoying great popularity thanks to our excellent moderators 0xxx and DION.
We are super happy to see how engaged you already are.

In the future there will be many more language-specific channels — if you are interested in moderating one of them, just let us know!

Team expansion

We have been on a hiring frenzy, but we hold high standards for talent on the core team! As previously announced, we have expanded our team with 2 talented programmers who have already started working in full swing — a bit about these legends!

1) Bauti — Backend Developer

Hola, I’m Bauti! I’ve been coding since the age of 13 when I taught myself how to program in Java (Java? Oh, how times have changed!). From that moment onward, software development became my hobby and passion. Today programming is not just my job. It is my tool of choice for exploring the depths of my never-ending curiosity. I am passionate about mathematics, economics, and blockchain technology but a builder at heart.

My true calling is backend development but I pride myself in being a flexible developer. As a matter of fact, I’ve pivoted and am currently helping our front-end lead, Eniko, on the brand new v2 website! I’ve spent the last couple of weeks squashing bugs, refactoring existing code and deploying new features for all the community to enjoy. After the v2 release, I will be moving to the backend and smart contract side of ReNFT where I will spend my days learning and building next to 0x1ff and 0xSeeN.

2) Wahab — UI/UX Designer

Hola 👋 I’m Wahab Ali, a problem solver who loves experimenting with human-centered design with 6+ years of experience in UI/UX designs. I am always thirsty for designing and creating new dimensions. My cravings for learning new topics in this sector increase day by day.

Furthermore, I am also quite versed in soft skills. In addition, I have the ability to strengthen my team at any time through my equanimity. Before I joined reNFT I worked for different companies and startups and learned a lot from them. Most recently I worked on a project for the WHO (World Health Organization) Also, I have worked in pro-tech, recruiting, education and more.

For several years I have been following the development of crypto and especially NFTs with great interest and as luck would have it I came into contact with the reNFT team.

I’m really enjoying my work so far, the team is great and I can’t imagine anything more interesting than helping to shape the future of the digital economy.

Our team now consists of a total of 8 people working full time!
We also have multiple part-time contractors we utilize as needed.

The goal is to get around 15 full-time core team members by the end of Q2 depending on talent — hiring is one of the toughest things in the space right now — great people are scarce.

We are also in the final interviewing phase and will onboard in the coming month a Head of Marketing, and Business Development lead.

As always, we are still looking for talented front and backend programmers, content writers, NFT addicts, business studs, and more. If you have a talent or passion in this space there is most likely a way to get involved, just reach out!

Q&A from our Twitter Spaces

1. How secure is it to use our platform like the dAPP

We went through tons of different peer reviews with a lot of builders in this space. We didn’t expect to see much activity on our collateral dAPP because collaterals are a huge barrier.

Audits are something we consider for our v2 platform and our collateral-free integrations given we have a more finalized version of the contracts.

Since there are only a few handfuls of trustworthy audit firms and their waiting lists are months long, this is an adventurous undertaking.

2. What is the Community-related utility?

If you’re an OG in the community and have been jamming with us since day one or along the route and picked up either an “Astrocat” or an “Catpleasr” which we gave out a month ago — you’ll probably know by now we are very community first that is what we’re saying here.

3. What’s the B plan in the event of a blue chip releasing a turnkey rental protocol solution?

It’s not as easily done as people might think. We have probably built every type of rental product over the last year from a wrapper solution down to our project for a variety of reasons.

Even if Opensea for example would release a rental solution, they would still need to integrate with every single game to get it working and we don’t see them doing that.

Our generalized collateral-free solution works for 90% of the existing games. But the larger more active games sometimes have ecosystems where the rental solution has to be tailored to their needs.

For example, we’re doing the Galaxy Fight Club integration — lots of their ecosystem relies on drops which is an actual NFT which is not as easily split like revenue — so who gets it?

The scholar? The lender? Who actually receives it? So we had to tailor something specifically for them to fit their needs.

We don’t foresee a future where these large platforms essentially act as a third-party contractor to fit the needs of these customers.

4. Any ideas of partnering in some way with LOOKS?

Definitely, we want to partner with marketplaces everywhere.

We still have our Rarible partnership — so a reNFT Rarible integration is going to happen, it is just a matter of time.

The marketplace rentals don’t make sense until the project integrations come out — that is why we are games first focused cause when we have a rental activity, we can start rolling out specific marketplace integrations because you need that project side and perhaps we could even work with these marketplaces to help push simple one-page integrations for projects if they want to enable rentals — this is kind of the end goal.

5. Are you still in contact with the sandbox?

Yes, we are very close with them. Sebastien (Co-Founder of The Sandbox) is one of our seed investors and advisor.

6. With the launch of your governance token — how will votes function?

We will roll out the DAO over time and decentralize over time. We’re working very closely with Eric (Arsenault), he is our advisor for DAO (and finance).

Votes will be probably on Snapshot.org — initially very similar to how most DAOs function.

That’s it for now — we look forward to our next Twitter space and wish you a great time until then!

About reNFT

Let your stale NFTs generate revenue and rent NFTs temporarily. The reNFT vision is to bring any asset that has a rentable use case whether in the digital or physical realm on-chain as an NFT for trustless, secure, and quick rentability. We see this as anything ranging from intellectual property rights, physical/digital real estate, to in-game item purchases in gaming experiences. We live at the intersection of NFTs and DeFi.

The initial and core reNFT product enables peer-to-peer renting of ERC-721 and ERC-1155 non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on the Ethereum mainnet.
