First RightMesh Ambassador — Zack Matere

This week, we announced our first RightMesh Ambassador, zack matere!

Zack is driven by his personal mission to connect local populations in Africa with the internet. In 2009, as a rural farmer, Zack made the audacious decision to bring relevant information, news, and connectivity to his community by riding into the nearest town each week, accessing the internet, printing off as much relevant information as possible, and posting it on a network of wooden noticeboards in his village market centre.

RightMesh Co-Founder, Chris Jensen and his wife Rosa meeting Obi and Zack in early 2018

Through this initiative, residents of the three Villages in Soy, near Eldoret, Kenya, had access to their own content, printed out and posted, for all to access and share.

Since then, Zack has been working to spread connectivity by providing his unique insight into the development of ICT solutions for the East Africa region. In addition, he has been recognized as one of the top 40 game Changers in Kenya (2011) and has been hailed by Google for his innovation ‘Leo Network of Community Noticeboards’.

Zack’s understanding of Africa from the perspective of the rural and urban low to middle-income demographics, and his passion for bringing connectivity to these communities, make Zack a fantastic addition to our growing global team.

Since 2013 LaBitConf has brought together top speakers, industry players, NGOs, and members of government from more than 20 countries to discuss and explore the potential of blockchain technology. Our second year attending, it was a great opportunity to reconnect with potential partners and explore how RightMesh can be used within Latin America.

Some highlights of the conference, just to mention a few include:

  • Receiving a nomination for the Blockchain for Humanity Awards ‘Identitiy’ category.
  • The ERC20 token bridges with the RSK team, lead by the popular Software Developer, Angel ‘Java’ Lopez.
  • The ‘Blockchain para la inclusión financiera: Caso BID en Argentina’ presentation by Gerónimo Tutusaus.

December 6th: Our Senior Software Development Manager, Rachel Cheng, and Mesh Engineering Lead, Frazer Seymour, attended The Lead Developer Austin.

This global conference series was designed with lead developers’ pain points in mind and covers the themes of team, tech and tools. Rachel and Frazer both greatly enjoyed talks from Erica Stanley on ‘Code Reviews for Culture’, and Lara Hogan on ‘Navigating Team Friction’.

December 10–14: RightMesh Ambassador, zack matere, attended the Africa eCommerce Week in Nairobi, Kenya. Jointly organized by the African and European Union, and hosted by the government of Kenya. The event had over 2000 attendees and was a fantastic opportunity to meet with Ministers, senior government representatives, the private sector, civil society and international organizations.

Under the theme “Empowering African Economies in the Digital Era”, the conference examined ways to enhance the ability of African countries to engage in and benefit from e-commerce and the evolving digital economy. Identified by multiple parties during the conference was the need for connectivity to help bring these solutions to those that need them most.

Women in tech was also a large topic of discussion at the conference, and how we can empower women through eCommerce to empower their communities.

Zack made many connections with members of UNTAD, Ministers from Kenya, private companies for potential collaborations, and telecom providers.
