In continuation with his updated Roadmap post, Dr. Jason Ernst released the sixth in his eight-part series on Multiple Superpeers. This week’s post covers Superpeer caching.

When we send data from the mesh to the Internet (or from the Internet to the mesh), we only want to send it once so if data is lost between the Superpeer and the receiver in another mesh, the original source doesn’t need to pay for Internet data multiple times. How can we cache the data at the Superpeer so this is possible? Do we cache it at the source or the destination Superpeer? How do we pay for it? How do we avoid the same problem on the receiving side? Can we introduce caching at the data Seller to prevent the InternetLink being used over and over again if there is a problem delivering it locally?

This week we also had Dr. Lucien Loiseau, our Lead Mesh Networking Scientist, in our Canadian office. He’s been doing some excellent work on DTN and did an internal presentation to our team.

  • Conceptualizing Apps: Our team has been working on conceptualizing the apps that will be released as part of the Soft Mainnet Launch. We’ve narrowed down on a few apps based on factors such as simplicity of use and ease of adoption since these will be apps used to illustrate how the mesh network works. We are now diving further into these apps.
  • Strategic Plan: We are building a RightMesh solutions strategic plan. The mission of the solutions team will be to achieve rapid adoption and growth of the RightMesh project. They will do so through working closely with global strategic partners such as enterprises and other projects to ‘co-create’ solutions on top of the RightMesh infrastructure.
  • Graphic Visualization: Because RightMesh is not the easiest technology to understand, we’ve also been working on building graphic visualizations of RightMesh to explain how the technology works in the most simple manner. This will be used at conferences and meetings to more effectively explain the technology to other people.
  • Translated Roadmap: To better support the needs of our Chinese community, we have created a translated roadmap.

Where you can find us next:

October 20–21: RightMesh is a community sponsor for the upcoming Decentralized Financial Wellbeing Hackathon, in Vancouver, Canada. The hackathon aims to build social impact applications for the new internet.

October 22–23: COO, Chris Jensen, and Director of Corporate Strategy, Melissa Quinn, will be in Toronto, ON attending the CIX Summit. CIX is Canada’s largest technology investment conference, attracting global investors and Canada’s most innovative early and growth stage startups. Melissa will be speaking on a panel about “Opportunities in Blockchain”.

October 23–27: Our CPO, Saju Abraham, will be traveling with the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service to take part in a Telecom mission to India for the India Mobile Congress. The purpose of the trip is to meet with potential partners, explore use cases, discuss pilot projects, and meet with key players within India’s Telecom sector.

October 25–26: Our Manager, Global Partnerships & Strategy, Brianna MacNeil, and Senior Software Development Manager, Rachel Cheng, will be heading to Paris, France, for the Techfugees Global Summit. The summit coordinates the tech community’s commitment and contribution to develop solutions using technology to address the challenges faced by refugees. Both Brianna and Rachel were part of RightMesh’s recent trip to the Kutapalong-Balukhali refugee camp for displaced Rohingya (commonly referred to as the “Megacamp”) along the Bangladesh/Myanmar border. This is the largest refugee camp in the world.

Brianna will be speaking on a panel on ‘Solutions powered by algorithms and blockchain’ alongside Mike Mitchell at HIAS, Snorre Von Gohren Edwin at Diwala, Kirk Bansak at Stanford University, and Alessandro Martinello at Lund University. The talk will answer the questions: are algorithms helping the registration and resettlement process? Can we trust algorithms to be programmed to deliver part of this work while also taking into account the human dimension? Blockchain is seen as a potentially disruptive tech for refugees: what do the current use cases show?

Brianna and Rachel will also be conducting a workshop on “How Can Blockchain Actually Help Refugees?” The workshop will provide an opportunity to think about actual problems faced by refugees through the lens of blockchain tech to generate potential use cases. This will be both a concrete and interactive session.

October 28–29: Brianna and Rachel will be joined by Igor Yakubov, Senior Software Development Manager at RightMesh, to attend the Council of Prague Fall 2018 by the Fellowship of ethereum Magicians. The event will cover technical discussions and technical governance of the Ethereum project and related code. The goal is to discuss the technical roadmap of the Ethereum platform for the next 6 months and to cover critical EIPs under construction.

We are proud to be a community sponsor of what is sure to be a great event.

October 30 — November 2: Brianna, Rachel and Igor will be attending Devcon while in Prague. Hosted by the Ethereum Foundation, this annual event helps educate and empower the Ethereum community to build decentralized applications, and bring protocols and tools to life.
