Happy November, The Month of being Thankful for your blessings!

This week I decided to read “Given: The Forgotten Meaning and Practice of Blessing” by Tina Boesch, this book is the yearly reflection we never knew we needed.

I will be discussing:

1. Giving Gets Us Outside Our Comfort Zone
2. Discovering Meaning Through Our Blessings
3. The Importance of Gratitude

And be sure to read my last blog on “Book Review: Using Powerful Gratitude In Our Lives & “FREE Download: November Desktop Wallpapers”.

If I could some up this book into one word it would have to be the word Given: freely passed to another that is deserving.

1. Giving Gets Us Outside Our Comfort Zone

When we are able to share our time, energy and money; we are actually giving back to ourselves in the end. It’s a double gain for the person you gave to and yourself, generosity is able to boost our mood and outlook on life. It reduces our stress as our hearts swell from giving back to others, according to a study from social psychologist Liz Dunn our stinginess is often linked to higher levels of the stress hormone cortisol.

Even helping our co-workers can be a way we give back, and can boost our overall happiness at work. Now I’m not saying to put other people’s needs over yours that you start to neglect your responsibilities. Find balance simply from starting by doing something for someone in your family, like if your chore is to take out the trash but you wash the dishes as well. The person who was supposed to wash the dishes will be in complete shock that completed both tasks and you’ll get to enjoy their surprised face.

2. Discovering Meaning Through Our Blessings

The more we reflect on what we have and appreciate the blessings we have received we are able to feel satisfied in what we have accomplished. Instead of jumping down a rabbit hole of self-hate and not feeling good enough, this is definitely something I struggle with.

But when I see myself about to follow the rabbit to Wonderland and wondering why I’m not where I want to be. I pull out my journal of blessings where I track my wins to remind myself that I am actually making progress and reflect on how far I have come.

3. The Importance of Gratitude

Gratitude is so much more than meets the eye, it’s more than just saying thank you when someone opens the door for you or if someone tells you God bless you when you sneeze. And neither are the benefits of gratitude, it won’t make you permanently happy but it will increase your mood and overall happiness.

Allow you to become less materialistic, reduce your chances of burnout, assist your overall physical health, sleep and lessen your fatigue. Improve your resiliency, encourages you to develop your patience, humility and overall wisdom. It lowers your cellular inflammation levels, helps become more effective and decisive with others around you.

Would I Buy Or Read Again?

Can I see myself re-reading Tina Boesch’s book “Given: The Forgotten Meaning and Practice of Blessing” again? YES! Can I see myself even purchasing “Given: The Forgotten Meaning and Practice of Blessing”? Yes, this book allowed me to step back reflect instead of jumping to my next goal, when I should take the time to appreciate what I have accomplished.

The Question of the Week is inspired by Tina Boesch’s book “Given: The Forgotten Meaning and Practice of Blessing”. How do you give to others?

Answer: By taking the time to listen to others and observing what they need most.
