Happy December, The Month of Preparation & Celebration!

This week I decided to read “The Productivity Project: Accomplishing More by Managing Your Time, Attention, and Energy Better” by Chris Bailey, this book is key to unlocking your hidden energy and extra time in your day.

I will be discussing:

1. Getting More Work Done

2. Staying Energetic All-Day

3. Improve Your Focus, Improve Your Day

And be sure to read my last blog on “Book Review: How To Change Your Life Fast” & “FREE Download: December Desktop Wallpapers”.

If I could sum up this book into one word it would have to be the word Productive: achieving or creating results instead of excuses.

1. Getting More Work Done

If you truly want to get more done in your life you have to be willing to make sacrifices and to focus on what is most important for today. Start by making a rough to-do list of what you hope to accomplish and then use an hourly or quarterly planner/printable to map out when your tasks will be completed.

Feeling like you don’t have enough time in your day, try to wake up an hour earlier and put that time to good use. This is something I am still battling but I know that when I skip snoozing I feel like I have accomplished something and immediately doing something with purpose. Things like opening up my bible as I enjoy my coffee and writing down my daily goals, it makes me feel like I am taking my time back.

2. Staying Energetic All-Day

Put down that Red Bull or that crappy cup of coffee, this won’t give you the energy to help you push through your day. If you knock your hardest tasks first in your day when your energy is starting to slip you will be able to still knock out small tasks without any issues.

Clear your desk, if your mind is cluttered or overwhelmed, then your desk probably is as well. Filled with tasks and paperwork you started but never fully completed, this is why the saying “Out of sight, out of mind” rings so true.

Use shorter work intervals and incorporate a timer for 25-minute increments with 5 minutes of rest in between. The key is to make sure that during this time you are focused without distractions like your phone or a million tabs open.

3. Improve Your Focus, Improve Your Day

In order to improve your focus, you first have prep and prime yourself for success by calming your brain of overwhelming thoughts that are consuming you. Simply take a few minutes to sit down comfortably and take a deep breath.

Now I’m not asking you to say the mantra to yourself to find your inner peace, I’m only asking you to allow for your body to calm down so that you can concentrate. True focus requires a level of understanding and knowing what actually qualifies as a distraction to your work. Our focus is important, so important that I recommend even scheduling time in your day to focus on a task.
