Did you know the special Friends fact? Lisa Kudrow’s character appeared in the second series before Friends!

Ursula Buffay on NBC’s Mad About You

Ursula Buffay was originally introduced in the second sitcom series.

Well known to the Friends series, Phoebe Buffay, one of the main characters in the series, has twin sister Ursula. However, this character also has a lesser known and somewhat confusing fact. Namely, Ursula Buffay appeared in another TV series besides Friends, and even before any Friends episodes were shown! The characters were performed by the same actor, Lisa Kudrow .

Ursula Buffay was first introduced in the Mad About You sitcom series in 1993. Ursula entertained viewers by being extremely incompetent in her work as a waitress.

Lisa Kudrow continued to portray Ursula in the Mad About You series until 1999. Friends began appearing in the United States in 1994. Ursula has also been featured in Friends episodes. Kudrow has previously spoken in interviews about where the special solution came from.

When Friends started performing on Thursday nights after 9pm, everyone realized that the audience had to give an explanation. Why do they see the same girl with the same voice at eight and half past nine in two different series? Kudrow has clarified.
