Below the Surface

the sea is violent

below the surface,

striking, roaring, jolting –

lightning erupting,

currents abducting.
.

outer storms ravish

your inner calm –

break it, violate it,

curse and crush it,

dreams hoarse, yet beloved.
.

thunder rages, craves

below the surface

crowns itself — reigns

under your skin,

cruel, deep within.
.

gentle waves, all I see –

pushed lightly, fatherly,

guided forth so feathery

along the shores

of the ocean you are to me.
.

no lightning, no thunder,

neither clash nor hope torn asunder –

just gentle ease, a milder breeze

and I stand and see, decide to be

with you, my sea.
