Ever; or, Who Are You?

Who are you
to hold me down,
to make me flee
myself and those I love?
Who are you
to break me,
to steal my dreams —
speak it — what’s your name?
Solitude?
Or despair, is it?
Regret or impermanence?
I can only laugh.
To think that you could be the end
of my spirit or my road.
Call yourself whatever you desire,
there’s no dread I’ll bow to — ever.
