I am @hametaro_bcg, in charge of Sakaba Research. Since encountering Web3 games in 2019, I have been enjoying gaming every day, taking delight in experiences uniquely possible because of blockchain and NFTs.

From September 21st (Thu) to 24th (Sun), 2023, the TOKYO GAME SHOW 2023 (TGS2023) will be held at Makuhari Messe. I will introduce Web3 games that will be featured at the event. This time, we’ll be spotlighting Web3 games at the Oasys booth.

We’ll be introducing a plethora of projects all at once, so please check out the ones that pique your interest!

Eternal Crypt — Wizardry BC -

This is a Web3 game based on the IP of “Wizardry,” often referred to as the origin of RPGs. Players delve into dungeons in search of limited treasures, strengthening their characters and venturing deeper into the dungeon’s depths. While you can certainly enjoy the addictive nature typical of cookie-clicker games, the depth of party formation and character development also promises to be intriguing.

You can enjoy battles using personified cryptocurrency characters and a race based on cryptocurrency price fluctuations. In collaboration with Avex Group, a major entertainment company in Japan, they have released a theme song, making it intriguing how they create elements beyond gameplay for users to immerse themselves in.

Brave Frontier Heroes

Using characters, weapons, and armor from “Brave Frontier,” which has surpassed 38 million downloads worldwide, you form a party of five. “Shisansei Million Arthur” is the first Web3 game released by SQUARE ENIX. It has a unique world where you use sushi collected during adventures to create pants, and then throw those pants into a spring to obtain seals. Even for those unfamiliar with Web3, it’s a highly addictive game that can be enjoyed during spare moments.

Champions Tactics Grimoria Chronicles

It’s described as a new PvP tactical RPG, but there’s no white paper available, so the exact nature of the game remains unclear. Let’s hope for some information to be revealed at the TGS2023 booth.

There are multiple games established on a single ecosystem. Judging from the preview video mentioned, it seems there are turn-based battles as well. Just the idea of being able to maneuver your precious NFT characters on immersive graphics is quite exciting.

QAQA is a user-generated vertical short video quiz service. No Web3 knowledge needed!

You can create quizzes or answer them to earn cryptocurrency. It seems the rewards are sourced from corporate advertising revenue and in-game item purchases. Thanks to this, we users can sustainably receive rewards while casually enjoying the quizzes.

Alkenome Monsters

The game NFT “ALKEMON” turns the time you spend walking with it into an asset, linking the game with the real world. The NFT sale was a huge success, indicating high expectations for the game.

GMO Media’s membership-based game platform, “Gesoten”, is said to showcase multiple titles. While it doesn’t have a clear image as a Web3 game yet, there’s anticipation for some kind of announcement at TGS2023.
