Today’s Theme Is Gratitude, Humility and Empathy
I’m sitting here in the Atlanta airport almost 24 hours into my journey home.
- I’ve slept on a floor.
- Lost my bags.
- Watched the doors close in my face for the last flight home.
- Given up in frustration over someone’s inability to make decaf coffee.
…And I’m not even home yet!
Last night (actually earlier this morning) I had a long conversation with myself…. I needed an attitude adjustment.
I was safe (the airline had to make an unplanned stop in Ft. Lauderdale to fix broken radar).
My beautiful wife was with me (we hadn’t killed each other and we’re functioning as a team).
I am near a clean bathroom (they clean them fully at 3:00 am by the way).
I asked God what I should take away from all this and here’s the inspiration I received:
- Practice humility. Remember, you’re no better than anyone else…. others have it worse than you tonight.
- Practice empathy. You have no idea what the person next to you is going through.
- Practice gratitude. No matter what, you are blessed and loved in total abundance always.
So today I’m going to suffer with a smile… because it’s not actually suffering at all.
Today is a gift if you’re willing to accept it as such.
