Mercury is the planet of communication, so it determines critical aspects of how you express yourself and interpret information. When working with other planets, its unique position ruling logic and rationality helps frame your emotions, actions, and romantic life. (What about the much-feared “Mercury retrograde”? We’ll get to that.)

Mercury rules the zodiac signs of Gemini and Virgo. It’s considered to be an inner planet and takes about two weeks to transit a zodiac sign. When Mercury goes retrograde (three to four times per year), the planet’s offerings start to malfunction and may cause travel delays, technology meltdowns, and frustrating miscommunications.

Astrologers will usually advise against making any major decisions or signing contracts during Mercury retrograde. During this planet’s backpedal, be sure to proofread all correspondence, triple-check the fine print, and don’t be afraid to repeat yourself.

One silver lining: if you were born during a Mercury retrograde, you may be less impacted by the effects of its routine retrogrades!

What’s your communication style? By observing Mercury’s placement in your natal chart, you can access a deeper understanding of your unique expression. A Sanctuary astrologer can help break this down for you during a reading of your chart. Chat with an astrologer now in the Sanctuary app!
