scite allows researchers to see how articles have been cited (supported, mentioned, or disputed) by subsequent research and the context of those citations. We believe that reading literature in context and understanding at a glance how a paper has been received helps researchers produce better quality work.

In order to better serve researchers, we have been asking our users how they perform their research and taking note of their various workflows. Based on this feedback and research, we have started to bring scite to these workflows and to go where researchers are by better integrating tools and sites they already use (see our recent Zotero plugin and Zotero and Mendeley integrations for example). Our browser extension update is an outcome of us trying to help users have scite information available wherever they research.

Today, we’re launching a new version of our extension that allows users to see scite data in the form of scite badges on search results, references, citations, similar articles and more.

We hope by going where users are and making our data more readily accessible within their existing workflows that we help researchers better discover, evaluate, and navigate scientific literature. We currently support the following websites:

  • Wikipedia
  • Pubmed
  • Pubmed Central
  • Science Direct
  • eLife
  • Nature
  • Google
  • Google Scholar
  • PLOS
  • ORCID
  • ACS
