1.The fifth meeting of the Inter-Agency Expert Group on the Sustainable Development Goal Indicators has been held this week in Ottawa, Canada. With little live broadcasting, we look forward next week to diving into outcome documents and statements that were made available today.

Earlier this week, we took a look at the newest Tier 3 indicator list, as well as documents and resources for following the meeting.

2. The April Monthly Forecast from the International Institute for Sustainable Development highlights the ‘finance’ focus of many events and discussions scheduled for this month. March was in many ways focused on ‘indicators’ and data for the SDGs, hosting the 48th UN Statistical Commission and the fifth meeting of the IAEG-SDGs. In April, we’ll look forward to events from the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, the 3rd Sustainability for All Forum (SE4ALL), and the 2017 Global Forum on Development from the OECD.

3. The United Nations Education, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Institute for Statistics is consistently a great resource for education and cultural data and definitions. This week we are highlighting the UNESCO Institute for Statistics Glossary, a searchable database of vocabulary and methodologies for common statistical and development terms used throughout the SDGs.

4. Impakter, an online publication focused on the culture of impact, featured an article written by Betsy Beaumon, the president of Benetech, a non-profit based in Silicon Valley that creates scalable technology solutions for vulnerable communities: “No Person Left Behind: How Using Data Can Reduce Inequality.” She discusses how Benetech supports communities in the delivery of data for Action and data for Impact.

Data for Action is data used to respond to today’s needs, to manage teams better, and to improve efficiency. Data for Impact is data used to establish interventions that lead to lasting change.

This focus on the different types of data that are needed to efficiently monitor and achieve the SDGs is part of Benetech’s strategy of partnership throughout sub-national levels with a foundation of capacity building.
