So What is Web Traffic?

Website traffic is basically when web users visit a website, hence why it’s measured by sessions. Sessions are a common way to measure online business effectiveness when it comes to attracting and engaging an audience.

Promoting a website means understanding website traffic and how popular your website is. Think about it, businesses do not build websites for the fun of it, they build them to get something out of them. Customers! Visualize your website as a real physical retail store. In a real physical store, people are entering, spending time, and buying products. But how do we measure this? We can look at the number of transactions, have a person clicking every time a person comes in, etc. The problem with these solutions is that they are uncertain.

All these uncertainties that have remained invisible are visible when coming into the digital space. In a digital space, like your website, they all follow the rule of metrics. This means you can track how many users come in, how much they spend, did they buy anything, etc. What was previously difficult to track is now easy and quantifiable. The advantage of using metrics to quantify and analyze your website traffic is key to your website growth.

Tracking or Monitor Traffic on your Website:

Discovering strategies to boost the traffic for your website is excellent, but how would we know if it worked? A commonly recommended tool to track the traffic on your website is Google Analytics. It’s free, easy to use, and quick to access.

What a website traffic monitor can do for you is a lot. Tools like Google Analytics can provide useful data to grow your website. Utilizing the data you accumulated from your website traffic monitor. You can use that data to solve a variety of problems to expand your website like:

  • How many people visit my website?
  • Where do my visitors live?
  • Do I need a mobile-friendly website?
  • What websites send traffic to my website?
  • What marketing tactics drive the most traffic to my website?
  • Which pages on my website are the most popular?
  • How many visitors have I converted into leads or customers?
  • Where did my converting visitors come from and go on my website?
  • How can I improve my website’s speed?
  • What blog content do my visitors like the most?

Scenario: Checking Your Competition

Being a business, you want to be the most common related find in regards to your product or services. For example, you’ve got well-implemented Technical SEO, but your competitors are getting a majority of the traffic. Why do people seem to like your competitor’s website better than yours? It’s probably not you: it’s them? Regardless of what it is understanding the data behind your website traffic will enable you to analyze and understand what pages are working, as well as what keywords are performing the best.

SEO experts utilize many SEO Tools to better understand competition, keywords, and implement effective SEO strategies. In fact, using the data that you collected about your competitors through various SEO tools is essential to be competitive. It like the saying:

“Know thy enemy and know thy self and you will win a hundred battles.”

- By Sun Tzu.

Understanding what your competitors are doing, is key to being one step ahead of them. After all, your competitors are doing whatever it takes to be competitive in your market. Monitoring your own website traffic, and checking various SEO standings of competition can help understand what your competitors’ are doing. By using the data collected, and analyzing it, you can learn and adapt your online marketing strategies.

What is Search Engine Optimization or SEO?

Understanding SEO is vital to growing traffic for your website. But what is SEO? SEO stands for “search engine optimization.” SEO is not just about search engines, it’s also about understanding people and what they are looking for. In fact, SEO experts and SEO companies have a good handle on knowing what people are seeking, what words they use, and what content they wish to consume. The person who knows the answer to these questions can help connect with people and drive quality traffic to a website.

If SEO has two sides of a coin, one is understanding the audience’s intent. Then the other side would be optimizing the search engine crawlers to find and understand it.

Whether it's local SEO, national, or global SEO important. But Why? The answer to that is between paying for advertisements to bring traffic or using organic SEO methods to bring traffic. Most people think to gain website traffic they need to advertise it. But, in fact, this is completely wrong.

A majority of website viewers come from organic search results and not paid adverts. Organic search results appear more credible to experienced searchers and receive a greater number of clicks than paid advertisements.

Here we are looking at data of the raw clicks from November 2015 to October 2017. It is apparent that the number of raw clicks is not constant. Many things have changed with Google since this data was collected. Looking at this data it is obvious that there are more than 20,000 clicks per month. With the majority being from organic search results.Though this graph does not give us a clear visualization of the data. It makes it clear that a great majority of clicks are organic.

In the chart above, it shows us using the metric of “clicks per ten search queries.” Using this form of metric helps us look at the rate of queries that lead to traffic opportunities.

When looking at this chart, we can distinguish the difference between paid and organic clicks for search results. In November 2015 it was the highest point with 6.97 organic clicks and 0.31 paid clicks. From December 2015 to October 2016 the number stayed stagnated, with a drop in November that lasted until the end. But without going over all the little details. Organic search results have seen their drops over the times, but regardless paid has stayed constant.

What we can conclude from this chart is that the world has slightly fewer opportunities and trendlines for SEO. But there is still importance in having a well-implemented SEO. When looking at our chart, the difference between organic and paid is roughly 95%!

What is the “organic” search result?

Early we went over SEO or search engine optimization. SEO is one of the organic methods to bring traffic to your web page. Organic search results refer to non-paid traffic. The old saying of “Time is money,” but using an organic method we are not using money to save time, but the opposite. With the organic search result, you are investing time and skill to drive traffic to your web page.
