On January 15, 2020, we kicked off the year with our Winter eSummit! Direct sellers across the country shared strategies on how to focus your business in the new year.

A huge thank you for their incredible insights and wisdom! In case you missed it, we share some highlights below. You can watch all 10 of our incredible speakers at the Winter eSummit #afterparty.

1. “Your comfort zone should be flexible, like pizza dough!” — Maggie

We often say, “It’s outside of my comfort zone!” when we’re challenged by something new, like promoting to a new level or choosing to become a leader. Maggie encourages us to reframe our “comfort zone” as something that’s flexible, not rigid. You don’t have to step outside of it; you can expand it. As you start to do small things each day to push yourself, you’ll start to become more comfortable. You might just surprise yourself along the way! 2. “Organize your contacts to conquer feeling overwhelmed!” — Jessica

The average seller has 230 business contacts, including customers, leads, team members, and more. It can feel exhausting to think about the different types of relationships that need to be built to grow a successful business. Jessica encourages us to organize contacts with custom labels to help nurture each type of relationship and make it easier to build authentic connections. 3. “Treat your Instagram marketing like a vendor event.” — Jonet

Did you know? Instagram has 500 million daily users and growing. Instagram can be a great opportunity to capture a larger audience if you’re consistent and intentional. As an entrepreneur, it’s important to know the audience you’re trying to reach and connect with them where they are, whether that’s through direct messages or comments. Jonet has seen the impacts of this strategy at work: you can make meaningful connections and help your customers like you, know you, and trust you. 4. “Make a plan and STICK to it.” — Aubrey

Aubrey shares the importance of overbooking yourself by 20–30%. We’ve all had cancellations or postponements, and it’s common for things to not always go as planned. When plans do change, make sure to utilize the time you originally set aside for an event to work your business in other ways. That could mean booking more events and parties or following up with past customers. The silver lining in a small setback is new opportunities to grow and expand your business. 5. “You’re in the people business and your number one job is to follow up.” — Christa

When you follow-up, you can make your customers feel important and valued. Regular follow-up gives your customers the chance to feel heard. Christa mentions the example of sharing a sample and then waiting for someone to call you back about it. There’s a high chance they may not call you. But, you can be proactive by reaching out first to ask about their experience, often leading to a sale or, at the very least, an open door to talking about other products the customer might like more.
