The other day I wrote a story that talked about how all too often erotica writers resort to describing their characters in Hollywood/Porn Star terms. All the women have tiny waists and enormous breasts. All the guys are so big that it causes the woman to exclaim upon setting her eyes upon his penis for the first time, “Ooh, it’s so big!”

It’s fine to have characters like that — sometimes — but if that’s all there ever is, it gets a bit stale and boring. There are people in the world with bodies like that, and they can be very enjoyable to look at — but that also isn’t the only thing that makes a person attractive or sexy, and there are plenty of other ways to be alluring and to convey heat.

I’d really love to be reading about more variety of body types, as well as stories that convey passion and sexual tension without simply resorting to something kind of expected and formulaic. After all, a part of being sex-positive is recognizing that not only actors and models can be sexy, and, it’s a part of interesting writing to create compelling characters who are attractive for reasons beyond just having great bodies.

So, with that in mind, I’m issuing a writing challenge, with the top 3 best stories to be featured in an upcoming Sensual…
