Dear SENCommunity,

July has been a full and rewarding month for the Sentinel Chain team. We are pleased to bring you the best of the month, from publications to partnerships, and project progress to successful events.

Publications

On July 6th, “Sentinel Chain: A Bridge to Two Worlds” was published. A brilliant and insightful read, our CEO and Founder, Roy Lai explains how Sentinel Chain differ from most other blockchain projects in how it takes the real-world focused approach and delivers new solutions to old problems. The World Economic Forum “Global Financial & Monetary System in 2030” report cited Sentinel Chain as example of blockchain projects’ “Applicability .. across a huge range of existing asset classes and enables the development of new ones (e.g., crypto- currencies). The range is becoming enormous; e.g., fine art (Maecenas), livestock-backed financial services for unbanked (Sentinel Chain), identity verification and attestation (Bloom and Civic) to name but a few”.

Partnerships

On 13th July, we announced partnership with POA Network to establish business and technical partnership for joint design and development of ERC20-to-ERC20 cross chain bridge. This is a massive step in the evolution of blockchain, helping close the gap between private and public blockchain implementations. The partnership represents “an important milestone for Sentinel Chain in moving forward to demonstrate the ability to allow the Ethereum communities to participate in our ecosystem and bring financial inclusion to real-world use cases for unbanked markets”, Roy Lai.

Project Progress

Joint Pilot Project with Myanmar Government

Our team completed Phase 1 of the livestock tagging across 3 farms in Nay Pyi Taw, Sagaing and Magway.

Together with the Myanmar government officials, our team braved the heavy monsoon downpour to implement Phase 2 of our Pilot Project to tag livestock in 2 more farms located in Kanbalu and Sin Phyu Kyun.

Technical development

CrossPay Mobile App

Our joint project with the Myanmar Government has reached another milestone. With constructive feedback and suggestions from LBVD (Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department) and Myanma Insurance, we released important app features such as —

(a) Localisation of CrossPay to include Zawgyi and Unicode Language options
(b) Capture of additional Livestock information which adds to its asset value Eg. Gender of Livestock, Vaccination and Insurance status
(c) Implementation of time stamp update during Livestock Identity creation and verification for future transaction audits
(d) Development of Azure Web Service, a new proxy web app to access the private key to sign transaction through the Azure Key Vault
(e) Caching of livestock and its owner details to reduce loss of active data
(f) Implementation of DateTime to UTC+0 timezone to ensure seamless communication between the different components.

Community Engagement Events

July was a month full of meet ups towards building new bridges and synergies with a wider community to share our vision of accelerating financial inclusion. We organised our inaugural Singapore meetup in partnership with LongHash (https://www.longhash.com/) on July 18th when Roy shared Sentinel Chain’s use case and architecture. Joining the meetup as panelists to discuss financial inclusion were Keith Lim, CEO of SURETY.AI, Nicola Castelnuovo, Co-Founder and Group Chief Commercial Officer of Crowdo, Robin Lee, Co-Founder and CEO of HelloGold and Thorsten Neumann, Co-Founder and CTO of SmartPesa. Our CEO was also in Sydney (13 July) and Kuala Lumpur (30 & 31 July) to talk about Sentinel Chain and our vision to create value and improve lives. There’s little rest in the race to realise our mission to deliver sustainable win-win scenarios for all our stakeholders by bringing financial inclusion at speed and scale through disruptive technologies - Roy was also on panel to discuss Financial Risk and Complexity of Blockchain at the Twelfth Annual Risk Management Conference organised by National University of Singapore’s Risk Management Institute.

Last but never least, our Foundation conducted their first Townhall session on Telegram to learn about the community’s concerns, questions and issues. This first Townhall session attracted positive feedback from our SENCommunity and brought ideas and suggestions on how InfoCorp Foundation can best move the community forward.

Conclusion

We close this edition with the words of Professor David Lee, Sentinel Chain’s Advisor on his opening Address at “When Moo? Blockchain for Financial Inclusion — Sentinel Chain Singapore Meetup” on 18 July 2018 -

“Remember what we are doing here… we are here to change the world… If you are going to face so many obstacles make sure that whatever you are doing is meaningful and worth your while.”

Sentinel Chain is a blockchain-based international marketplace for cross-border financial services and the world’s first platform to accept the use of livestock as collateral. Taking a unique approach to the last mile problem of financial inclusion, the Sentinel Chain model establishes livestock provenance through the creation of livestock insurance on blockchain — the registration of livestock provenance on blockchain provides the unbanked with a new opportunity: the real possibility of accepting livestock as ‘collateral’ for loans.
