While somewhat petty, one of the biggest annoyances couples may squabble about is cold feet — and not the kind that makes people reluctant to have sex with someone for the first time or get married. It’s the icy chill of having a sockless partner cuddle up next to you in your warm bed on a frigid, winter night.

But cold feet don’t only cause a little bickering in the bedroom. A study of 13 couples by researchers at the University of Groningen shows they can also ruin intimate moments with your partner. In fact, when researchers scanned participants’ brains as they were stimulated by their partner manually, only 50 percent could achieve an orgasm — which could be detected from their brain activity — when they were not wearing socks. However, when couples were given socks and tried again, 80 percent was able to have an orgasm.

Maybe getting socks for Christmas is sexier than you think.
