When it comes to happiness in a relationship, clearly sex is an important factor. But how much does a couple really need to be satisfied?

Not as much as you may think, according to research from the Society for Personality and Social Psychology that was published in Social Psychological and Personality Science.

“Although more frequent sex is associated with greater happiness, this link was no longer significant at a frequency of more than once a week,” said researcher Amy Muise. “Our findings suggest that it’s important to maintain an intimate connection with your partner, but you don’t need to have sex every day as long as you’re maintaining that connection.”

“It’s important to maintain an intimate connection with your partner without putting too much pressure on engaging in sex as frequently as possible.”
