Older women certainly do have a reputation. Many people believe they’re well past their prime sexually, and as such, they’ve put their sexual selves on the shelf to collect dust for the rest of their lives, never to have satisfying sex ever again. Their sexuality is so far behind them in their rearview mirror that they don’t even bother thinking about sex anymore.

Of course, we know this perception isn’t necessarily true, but we may not know the extent to which older women still care about sex, and enjoy pleasurable sex lives with their partner. To find out just what this demographic feels about their sex lives, Scarlet Society asked 400 women aged 40 to 60 about their sexual behaviors, attitudes, and preferences.

Sexual Thoughts and Talk

You may not believe women of a certain age still think about sex, but that’s definitely not the case according to Scarlet Society’s findings. In fact, 24 percent of the women surveyed think about sex one quarter of the day. And most aren’t afraid to talk about what’s on their mind: While 26 percent do admit that they don’t feel comfortable talking to their partner openly about sex, 55 percent were willing to talk about their sexual needs and desires.
