Research shows the most common reservations people have about trying adult toys

For some couples, bringing sex toys into the bedroom is a welcome way to spice things up between the sheets. But for others, there are some reservations, even fears, about using sex toys for the first time.

But why are people afraid to give these adult products a try? Superdrug Online Doctor conducted a survey of about 900 people, and among women, these were the common reasons:

  • Concerns about discomfort or pain (23 percent)
  • Concerns about hygiene (14 percent)
  • Concerns sex toys won’t enhance their sex life (13 percent)
  • Concerns about people judging them for using sex toys (12 percent)
  • Concerns about safety (10 percent)
  • Experiencing general anxiety about sex toys (9 percent)
  • Concerns about the moral implications of using sex toys (3 percent)

Here are the reasons men gave for being reluctant to use sex toys:

  • Concerns about discomfort or pain (16 percent)
  • Concerns about hygiene (14 percent)
  • Concerns sex toys won’t enhance their sex life (15 percent)
