Maybe you’ve just had a marathon sex session all night that has left you satisfied physically and emotionally. Maybe you’ve just fit in a quickie after a long day in order to scratch your itch with your partner. Whatever the case, you may want one thing out of the encounter.

No, not an orgasm; obviously you want that.

What your body may really be craving after a good sex session with your partner is to sleep. In fact, for many people, having sex can be the best sleep medicine they can turn to.

A survey of 53 people by sleep experts Dr. Douglas Kirsch and Dr. Seema Khosla found that 75 percent actually enjoy a better night’s sleep when they have sex close to bedtime — and even experienced an improvement in their sleep when they do.

On the other hand, sleeping pills did not fare as well. When asked about how sleeping pills impacted their sleep compared to a good romp in the sack, 64 percent of survey respondents reported that they experienced a similar, or worse, effect when they took medication.

Although the relationship between a good night’s sleep and sex may be something we’ve experienced firsthand — or at least seen or heard about in popular media —…
