Quickie: The Real Reason Your Partner Refuses to Cook
The kitchen may be scarier than you think
Do you have a hard time getting your partner to make a meal? Or when your partner does pick up the pots and pans, do they want you to immediately put on your chef’s hat and get in the kitchen yourself?
You may think these behaviors mean your partner is being lazy or difficult, but the issue may be rooted in something else.
Intimidation.
In a survey conducted by Fresh Express of 2,000 people who cook regularly, 29 percent reported that they feel uncomfortable cooking in their own kitchen because recipes are too challenging and 43 percent said that even the simplest recipes can make them feel anxious.
And when it comes to international dishes, even the ones they love, 60 percent of survey respondents reported that these recipes were especially intimidating. Why? Even though they enjoy eating these dishes, they found them challenging to cook because of the number of ingredients they have (45 percent), the complexity of the recipes (42 percent), and how easy it seems to make mistakes when cooking them (32 percent).
