Quickie: The Real Reasons People Avoid Sex
It’s not a headache
We all know that the passion people have for their partner can quiet down over time, but for some people — particularly after marriage — the fires have extinguished to the point where sex simply isn’t a priority anymore. In fact, according to a survey of 2,000 married people in Britain conducted by Benenden Healthcare Society, the average time it takes for the fires to burn out after the wedding is one year, eight months, and 23 days. This probably explains why even though respondents would prefer to have sex with their partner 11 times every month, they are only actually having it five.
“Sex isn’t just the physical act, but includes the expression of intimacy towards a partner.”
“The strain of modern life is forcing married Brits to put their romantic lives on hold,” said Benenden Healthcare Society’s Head of Communications and Strategy Lawrence Christensen. “Sadly, it appears that the statistics confirm the stereotype of sex lives taking a downward plunge within marriage.”
And what were the most commonly cited reasons for this plunge? People gave the following explanations:
