With the Spring Festival travel rush now officially upon us, a few international students are getting some rather unique work experience in China, volunteering as Chinese train attendants.

The three students from Xi’an Jiaotong University are helping out onboard high-speed trains traveling from Xi’an to Chengdu, handing out refreshments to passengers, getting their photos taken, and just generally getting a taste of the glamorous life of train attendants in China.

In order to help better manage this year’s travel hell, more than 140,000 young people, mostly college students, will serve as volunteers at bus and railway stations around the country, helping travelers to find their way back home.

Last year in Wuhan, 28 foreign students donned brightly-colored vests to volunteer to help passengers at the city’s railway station, answering questions, carrying luggage, and, once again, posing for countless photos.

However, Chinese New Year does not only provide foreigners with career opportunities in China’s public transportation sector. Back in 2016, four ambitious laowai answered the call to become Spring Festival couriers in Nanjing.

Presumably, we will only see more of these opportunities arise as China tries to attract more and more high-end foreigners.
