A Sausage That Travelled to Space
Kranjska klobasa, a Slovenian delicacy, has this unique distinction
The idea was to savor authentic Slovenian cuisine. My partner and I first zeroed in on a sprawling establishment in Ljubljana, the country’s capital, and then entered its premises. Unfortunately, it was packed to capacity. The staff member who greeted us inside was categorical, advising that it is only possible to secure a table with a prior booking.
Disappointed, we made our way out. However, it was not a lost cause, yet. The first staff member we had met a little earlier, who had ushered us in and directed us to the restaurant proper after we expressed a desire to dine in, offered us hope. She was attending the tables spread across the lawn area, and asked us to wait.
A few moments later, she returned to guide us to our table. A family was through with their dinner, and that table had no other reservation. More importantly, the girl wanted to help. When the intention is right, the solution is always around the corner, like the table we had been designated to.
The friendly girl first took the order, then helped us with the selection of a local wine, and finally placed the latter on the table in quick time. As we savored the wine, and waited for our order, I picked up the elaborate menu that she had…
