Maya Moore ends a 20 year drought for women by landing the cover of Slam Magazine. It’s been 20 years since a woman has been on the cover since Chamique Holdsclaw in 1998. Here is a sneak peak at Moore’s resume.

Have you ever heard of someone that has won at every level, from high school to their profession career? If you have not met seven year veteran, Maya Moore of the Minnesota Lynx. Maya has made impeccable contributions to young women around the world and for the game of basketball. Moore is a two-time NCAA champion, four-time WNBA champion, and two-time EuroLeague champion as well.

The Lynx star is successful in several categories outside of basketball. She has her own signature shoe with the well known Jordan brand. Most recently, Moore’s famous Jordan Wings poster was placed in Minnesota just in time for their home opener against a well respected team, Los Angeles Sparks. That poster gained a well deserved young fan of Moore that day along with a friendship between the two. Liliana and her dad were going to attend a baseball game but instead decided to go to the Lynx game when the little girl was wowed by the Maya Moore poster. That’s just one of the inspirational stories Moore has regarding an inspired young fan. I am quiet sure there plenty more where those come from.

What does Maya Moore Slam cover mean for the future of women’s basketball? She has created much needed exposure for the WNBA which opens up the eyes of inspiring young men and women as well as increasing awareness in women sports. She brings on the notion that women can do it well too. Hopefully this is an introduction of more to come from Slam Magazine as well. There are a lot of well deserved women basketball icons that can grace the cover of this magazine and bring more awareness to women sports.

Moore is just one of the great WNBA players to make history this season. Check out other successful stories of WNBA players that have made history this season right here.
