Michaela Coel (I May Destroy You) will join the ensemble cast of Marvel’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, a sequel to the 2018 blockbuster Black Panther.

Wakanda Forever began production last month at Atlanta’s Pinewood Studios with Ryan Coogler back in the director’s seat and working with a script he co-wrote with Joe Robert Cole. The sequel will star Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright, Daniel Kaluuya, Winston Duke, Lupita Nyong’o, Florence Kasumba and Angela Bassett, all likely to reprise their roles from the original film.

Plot details for the sequel, as well as who Coel is playing, are still hush-hush. Per Marvel’s announcement, the film will be the 30th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and scheduled for cinema release on July 8, 2022.

Coel first came into the spotlight with her series Chewing Gum. She sealed the acclaim around her talent with the HBO Max limited series I May Destroy You. The limited series has won several awards, including a Peabody, and recently bagged four Emmy nominations.
